I believe these are Sulphurs, correct me if I'm wrong.
The host plant is Senna alata.

Super photography Dave! Thanks for posting here. I haven't had any sulphurs ...yet. I had the host plants but never saw any cats on them. I sure hope they lay eggs this year.
Maybe one of our more knowledgeable bf folks will confirm the species of your sulphurs.

I haven't seen one sulphur this year....hopefully they will return before fall.

So this is a "candlestick" tree? I have had trouble the last few years getting these to grow here!! I have had them get 6 feet tall so I know they CAN but I can't get them over a foot now! They die in the winter so I've even tried carrying the darn thing back and forth in a pot, but it never gets bigger. I'd think it was a pot issue except even in the ground I can't get them taller. Ideas? because I really want sulphurs!

I lost the candlestick I had over six foot last winter too. It was just a foot or two when it was given to me and didn't bloom until around september. I was gifted another and planted it, and three small ones that I bought this year. I plan on digging them up, and planting them outside again next year. They love full sun.

Sheila, I have done this over and over for at least the last 5 years and never have any success! I am sure it's because I was trying. I have great success with peonies..because I didn't want them! lol If I put it somewhere like the front yard where I don't want it, it will grow!

This was my senna alta at the end of the season. It got over 9 foot tall. I am sure it will not survive the winter so I had bought three small ones and planted them in an area part shade. They were tiny and stayed small, now about 3 foot tall. I dug them together put in a pot inside the shop and will plant in the ground next year. I have seed soon and will try to plant over-winter and have to share at RU in the spring. Still never had sulphurs lay eggs on them.

I always have a good number of sulphurs in my yard pretty much all year. They always find something to eat.

I do have zone envy when it comes to butterflies!

Nice shots, Dave67. The Sulphurs seem to find something to eat here too although I haven't spotted exactly what just yet.

I have adult sulphurs all over the yard every year, but they don't lay eggs in my yard that I know of.......yet.

Same here, Sheila. I keep looking but have seen no cats. Maybe 2012 will be the year. I guess I should go see what they love to eat.
