I hope this is not a duplicate, but is there a way to search within a thread? The site search or even the forum search will show all the posts or threads that contain the search item, but if the thread or post has a lot of pages, it's really hard to find that one item. Case in point, I was looking for Algoflash out here .. curious to see what other members have experienced using it, etc. I found a lot of posts or threads listed, but I can't figure out how to get to the actual post with Algoflash in it. Am I missing something?

Thanks.
Mary K.

I'm afraid not. It's one of those things that I occasionally think about. Eventually I'm going to need to do something. Until then you kinda have to just go through the pages of the thread looking for what you're questing for.

Mary ...

I agree that having a keyword search within a thread or even in the database could be very useful. This is a large database with many posts, so it could be awkward to do it for the whole database, but maybe it's possible to do it within an individual forum.

There is a fairly simple work around for this issue. Using you example above, search the forums for Algoflash and you'll get a list of threads that contain that word. Click on any of those threads, then push the CTRL and F keys at the same time. A little box will pop up . Type Algoflash in the box and click the arrows next to it and you'll be taken to all the posts in that thread that contain the word Algoflash.

Hope that helps?

That works except in threads which are so long that they spread into multiple pages. Ctrl-F only searches the one page you're currently looking at.

Maybe someday there will be a FAQ section (or a sort of tutorial for facilitating navigation) in the column with podcasts, forums, blogs and goodies where those forgetful ones like me can go look for answers. I had this same question earlier this week, but knew I'd seen it before. I didn't want to ask again and didn't know how to even look. Seems some of these come up fairly often. Members are really great to help with the answers and shortcuts, but those with answers may not be on the site at the time. Then the forgetfulness kicks in and a week or so later there I am again Smiling . A thought. That may be too much trouble.

Try this: Go to site preferences, set the pages per view to 400 - don't forget to 'save changes', use the Control F as suggested by KentPfeiffer Thumbs up . After you find what you're looking for, you can re-set your pages per view to any of the available settings.

Well I tried searching for Algoflash in all the forums and it was really easy, (compared to some things I do). I have my preferences set to 500 items per page, so just one forum came up with more than one page, it only had 2. Then it was simple enough to click on the second page and find the one mention of Algoflash.
1. on the forums page search for Algoflash, it brings up all the forums Algoflash is mentioned in.
2. Click on the first forum, use the control "F" and bring up the box and type in Algoflash, on my screen over on the right side margin a yellow high light appears that shows the exact location of the mention of Algoflash, so it is very simple to navigate to it and see how many times on one page the word is mentioned.
3. Use the back arrow when you are finished with that forum and select the next forum, hit control plus "F" again and the great thing is that Algoflash is still there and appears so just hit enter and the search is down for that forum page. Really makes a quick search.
Cross posted, sorry it took me too long to type this out.

Thanks to all who replied ... I'll try changing the items per page and that should be a workaround. I was using the Ctrl-F but didn't realize I could increase the number of items per page ... that will help.

Thank You!

control + F works great and increasing the number of items per page has saved me hours of searching!
