I live in the Deep South, in N.E. MS, and I see, each summer, Pipevine Swallowtail butterflies but I've never seen any Aristolochia (sp?) around here. If I'm correct, this is the larval food source? If so, which other plants play this role?

That's it, just certain Aristolochia species. This is a list I borrowed from another site on the net. Just because you haven't seen any (in the wild, I assume?), that doesn't mean they aren't around somewhere. Many are hard to spot unless they are blooming...and may not be common in your area.

Aristolochia tomentosa - woolly pipevine
Aristolochia serpentaria - Virginia snakeroot
Aristolochia californica - California pipevine
Aristolochia fimbriata - white-veined Duchman's pipe
Aristolochia trilobata - Dutchman's Pipe
Aristolochia clematitis - Birthwort
BTW, that list includes some that aren't native to the U.S.

Hey Linda, what a nice surprise to hear from you regarding the pipevines. The list you put together is impressive.
Indeed, we do live in the country. With woods surrounding all but one side of the property. Owen and I have 5 acres but leave 4 acres as is so the little creatures have access to food, water and shelter.
Certainly, wouldn't you say, that indeed, there are some types of aristolochia somewhere as you implied and I just can't see them. I'd go out and explore if I hadn't have had to have both my knees replaced due to avascular necrosis and it's cropping up in other bones and joints. However, I make myself go and do things esp. when it involves anything nature. Just can't imagine life without animals about. With 15 cats, we do love nature or are seriously ill.
However around here, these rednecks want to shoot anything that walks or crawls. Deer season is in progress now and it always distress me as we put out salt blocks for them so they'll have easy access to salt. The blocks are in our yard and so far nobody has shot any of them as they congregate.
Unfortunately, the only book about butterflies is one called, "Butterfly Gardening for the South" by Geyata Ajilvsgi and some parts are limited. Have you one that comes to mind which is more comprehensive? I did know a web site about B'flies and moths but for the life of me, I can't remember it. Now, it was truly informative.
