I saw the Daylily folks doing a neat thing -- every day the members of the group picked out one of their favorite Daylilies whose name began with the designated letter for the day -- and posted a picture of that Daylily. I thought it was a great way for members to share their favorite Daylily -- without making a large project out of it. So I thought I'd start that here -- hope everybody likes the game!

Today's letter is *A* -- and will run until tomorrow night when we will move to *B*.

My choice for *A* is Arizona Sandstone, a 2000 cultivar hybridized by Terrell Taylor

I love the color and form of this Iris. This particular bloom stood itself up in all of its perfection and just begged for a picture to be taken. I did so!! Green Grin!

I had a great deal of difficulty with this exercise (It's tough to choose JUST one). I chose from what I own rather than what I want; and then even yet, only what has bloomed for me (which means all of the 2014 accquisitions were not available for inclusion).

I narrowed it down to; Alpenview, Antiquity, & Amazon Bride.

I should have stipulated that, Greg -- it should be an Iris that you already own. And I had the same problem that you did -- only ONE??????? If everyone likes the game, we can always do a Round 2!! Hilarious! Yes -- it eliminates 2014 acquisitions -- but there's always next year...................(need a winking icon!)

Most of my named Iris were received in 2014, so I won't have many to add to the game unless I pick which one I think I will like best based on photographs? Big Grin

Going to pick Adriatic Waves. Blue is about my favorite color. Smiling

I have several 'A' iris that I like, but many of them are new, so I don't have pictures of them blooming yet.

Of the older ones, I'll go with Alpine Butterfly.

Fun thread, thanks Mary Ann, I'm afraid some of my favorites here will be from the new ones I planted last year, but I don't have pics yet. Also many of them have been posted already, so I'll choose "All About Spring"

Oh -- this is great. I'm seeing Irises I either haven't seen before, or saw in a group so didn't fully appreciate.

Marilyn -- my first *A* thought was Arthouse! I'm glad someone picked that one!! I love that Iris!!

Debra and Sue -- I love both of those Irises! Had to go check my database to see if I have them -- I do!! Got them in 2013, so may have bloomed last spring. I still haven't finished my database work with the 2014 photos, so couldn't use one of those for my *A* Iris. Oh -- and special *dispensation* for you Deb -- you're an Iris newbie, so haven't had time to make your photographic collection.

Good choice Kent -- that is one gorgeous Iris!!

Sherry -- I keep looking at Absolute Treasure, every time I see it, and think *I need to get that one*. Your picture is beautiful! Lovey dubby

Celia -- what a wonderful color on your Iris. I'm going to check the database here on ATP to learn more about it!

Pam -- Alpine Butterfly is a delicate beauty. Going to check it out in the database too.

Tom -- same goes for yours. I've got a question -- do the falls fade in color as the bloom ages, or are the lighter falls in the second picture the result of lighting? I sure love the bright yellow rim around the standards.

No it doesn't fade, must be just the lighting. The picture is the same bloom taken seconds apart.

OK -- I checked it in the database, and all of the photos look like your first one, so I thought that was likely the case. It sure is a pretty thing!!

It's very pretty, but it sure likes to pout for about the first 2 years, then it kind of takes off and does OK.

Since Absolute Treasure has already been posted ~thanks Sherry~ I will post Alpine Lake.

It is icy blue with a lot of blue splatters and a few purple ones. It is an MDB and gorgeous.
Thro' all the tumult and the strife I hear the music ringing; It finds an echo in my soul— How can I keep from singing?
