Congrats, Cat! Hope you find more of them...they're great cats! BTW, I've found more of the smaller leafwing cats...on doveweed. Seems like the leaves wouldn't be big enough for larger cats to hide in...unless they web together two or three!

Good for you Linda! The croton is growing in massive amounts at the ranch and the leafwings are making an appearance. I haven't looked over any plants for eggs or caterpillars...already raised some...so probably won't bring any back.

The ranch is way overgrown with weeds and grasses. Hate to do it but will have to shred some areas alongside the dirt roads and then till up the dirt roads again. Can't see where I'm driving on the golfcart anymore - danged stuff is too tall!!!

The hopsvine is doing great...even the measley forsaken twigs I got off of ebay started growing. All I need is for the Question Marks to show up and make use of them!!!

One of my larger Texas Powdered Skipper cats. Oh, just remembered...Cat, are things okay down there? I just read something about flooded crops in your area...is it bad?

Some places got lots of rain and strong winds - just about every low lying area flooded. I saw numerous canals on my way to work that were brimming with water. I'd not seen them that filled up before. One of the roads I take to work was flooded too - people were still driving through it eventhough there were stalled vehicles in the way. You know if you see all five lanes under water and stalled vehicles the FBI would say that'a a clue!!! DOH!!! I drive an SUV that is higher off the ground than normal cars but I decided not to risk it with all the water sloshing around from the traffic. It was easy enough to back track and catch another road.

The news showed some houses that resembled islands - they were completely surrounded by water that was knee high and higher in depth! The county workers have been really quick at bringing in pumps to siphon off the water from the residential locations. There are still lots of crop fields that are flooded. Doesn't look like they'll be getting any assistance - so it will have to be left up to Mother Nature to dry them out or up to the owners to pump it out themselves...but even then...the ditches around them are already flooded - no place for the water to run off too. The humidity is killing us now. Dang, it's bad!!!

Where I live all is well. Got a good dose of rain and wind but nothing damaging. Had a little hummingbird camp out on my back porch during the hurricane. It found a wire hanging basket to be the perfect perch where it could guard the feeder and remain sheltered from the rain and wind. I watched it for a while and even made up another feeder with fresh nectar to keep the little bugger happy.

The caterpillar I have looks just like your TPS. It's been the same size since I collected it. It doesn't eat much - wish it would hurry up and pupate!

Don't give up on the TPS cat...I had one like that last time and had really decided it wasn't going to make it...but it did! Don't know why that happens sometimes.

Sorry you guys in there are having a rough time weather wise Cat. I lived down Houston and southern Louisiana several years with hurricane weather, it is the pits.

I have some pipevine cats that insist they aren't going to pupate. I told them they are going to starve if they don't!

Cool...still waiting for any of those to show up! I know what you mean...the aristolochia foliage is not normally abundant and they eat a lot!

You are not smarter than a fifth grader. On the TV program last night they asked for the lifecycle of butterfly? Answer:
Egg
Caterpillar
PUPA
Butterfly

Hurray!

That's acceptable, although I'd prefer to use the term chrysallis.

I always think chrysallis will become a butterfly and
cocoon will become a moth,
but probably some don't.
I consider the hawk moth has a chrysallis.
But they are all pupa.
If there are two,
is it pupae or pupas ?
Hilarious!

Love the Goatwing Linda!

John.....So you watch "Are you smarter"?......guess you may be able to tell us if it is pupae or pupas then. LOL!I bet they did that because most fifth graders wouldn't be able to spell chrysalis!

So where are your pictures of your critters eggs, cats, pupa, and bfs?? I would love you to share them with us here. ...Moths or butterflies welcome. Do you raise the caterpillars or just enjoy them?

Red-spotted Purple cat, soon to pupate, I'd guess.

I think these are Bordered Patch cats on sunflower plant. But I don't remember seeing them that small before, so not sure.

And then the two Bordered Patch chrysallis I already had emerged. Here's one clinging to the paper towel from the bottom of the container. The two cats must have been 5th instars when I found them, because they pupated pretty soon after.
