Of the three in the article, I always thought Indian Chief had light/lighter standards than the other two. Zuni, which was introduced two years after IC, has even lighter standards than IC. Very interesting.
Just catching up...great article Greg! It may just be the picture quality but I was immediately captivated but the color, pattern, and form of Dauntless. I may have to add that one to my order! Thanks for sharing the article and posting the photos!
I looked up Numa Roumestan in the AIS iris encyclopedia and just had to share this photo. Take a look at the beard in this photo...it's very different from the other...and it's making this one another 'must have'! ...and I just noticed this photo was taken by Rick Tasco!
The photo you linked to was not taken by Rick Tasco. It was done by the "Pickle Barrel" folks in Wisconsin I believe. The AIS site has two pictures posted for Numa, the other one is by Rick Tasco and is the same picture I posted to ATP.
Neal, the picture looks to be taken on a cloudy and rainey day which may account for a bit of the color difference. Then add the soil conditions.
It's just a matter of whether or not it happens to be blooming when I am up there. I went twice last year...but they said it was an odd bloom year. A fair number of the ones I wanted to see didn't bloom last year. I was particularly hoping to see Sammies Jammies! Maybe this year.
