The other annual I am trying for the first time this year is Kochia - I tend to get easily swayed by beautiful pictures. Not quite sure yet how I am going to use it.

I sure admire all you getting plants from seeds, I am not usually doing well with seeds, the only luck I have with seeds is buying or harvesting
Holly Hocks, and my Columbine and Moss Rose that seed themselves, plus I have no patience waiting for the seeds to sprout.

These were up in just 2 or 3 days, Arlene, so there's probably no need to rush; ambient room temp, probably 69 degrees. Big Grin

Okay. I checked and I did not WS! My seeds are popping up so fast in the vermiculite it's crazy.

For an experiment i tried planting in vermiculite using the finger trays even though they are not truly air tight, but I put a dome on and a shallow tray under them. Some popped up the next day and some are being very stubborn! Hardest part is to choose similar germinating seeds. Right now I have bachelor buttons knocking the top of the dome and others that haven't germinated, hence my rush to pot up some tiny seedlings.

Johnny's. AND the white, shallow, no holes trays for under them. And I got a box of clear domes since I have wrecked so many of them.

Every year when I start doing seeds, I am scrambling to find trays, domes, etc. This year I splurged and took some of my market $$ and just did it! I also got some of the hard plastic trays and I am trying to be more careful on handling things. No dropped trays yet, just one jarred from dragging the hose in the GH. Seemed like I was dropping trays right and left last year.

You have to have over $200 order to get free shipping. It's a lot but I think they are marketing a lot to market gardeners now, more so than individuals. I dunno.

Greenhouse Mega Store on line has them too. I have purchased them at my local Farm & Fleet, but the ones they sell are thinner and don't hold up so well.

Last year I saw Kochia scoparia used as a clipped hedge surrounding red celosia at Upper Canada Village in Ontario. Sorry, picture's a bit dull as the sun went in:

I would never have thought to use it for such a purpose until I saw this.
