Someone on ebay is selling seeds from a blackish color Rose. I know seedlings can be various colors and rarely true color like parent, but from this rare color what colors could the offspring be?

Here is the listings (are they real?)

Every one of these is a scam and I wish someone would expose the eBay and Amazon crooks who offer rose seeds in exotic colors. Species roses will come true from seed, but other roses won't. These scam artists on eBay and Amazon show pictures of hybrid teas, David Austin roses, floribundas, etc. and suggest that their seeds will produce the roses in the pictures. They won't!

So none of those Rose photos are real? Reason I'm asking is I don't care what color the offspring will be I know they will differ from parent plant, but if I get seed from a deep red or purple Rose which do exist that is all I care about Smiling the fun was seeing all the colors the offspring could potentially be, but only IF these roses are real.

Anything that's black or blue or rainbow colored either has been photoshopped beyond belief or is a photograph of a silk flower that has never grown in nature.

There are deep purple and dark red roses in nature, and you could have fun seeing all of the colors their seeds would produce, but I personally wouldn't buy anything from a scam artist. There's no guarantee that these people will send you anything resembling the roses in their pictures. They'll probably send you seeds from a species rose, which won't produce a variety of colors. Couldn't you save the money and collect rose hips on your own? Aren't there any roses with rose hips in your neighborhood? The seeds are inside the hips.

I remember seeing a video on Youtube about making multicolored roses. Basically they split the stem and put each arm of the split into a cup of food coloring, and the rose would suck up the color. They were doing this with white roses, but I suspect that is what they are doing with the red and black roses in the links above. They're putting a red rose stem in black food coloring and pulling it before the petals become saturated. I prefer the natural color - but I thought the process interesting.

On the other hand, some Gallicas come close to being black.

I have had Gallicas that were mostly black - but it was their leaves, not the blooms. (I no longer try to grow Gallicas.)

I've posted about this many times on how hilarious these things are. I noticed in each one that they're no longer stating exactly which rose you're getting (real name, type)... before they'd post that you're getting a nearly wild or some other pink rose.

Zuzu - I've contacted eBay many many times about fraud with these sellers. eBay honestly doesn't give a flying foofoo. You buy seeds, you get seeds. What you end up with is something totally different than the picture, but by the time that the plant blooms, it's way too late to do anything about it (over 60 days). So it's totally buyer beware. I notice now that almost all of these aren't from China but rather the UK... which is sad. I've gotten a couple of roses from the UK through eBay and they were absolutely gorgeous (my Doris Tystermann & Summer Holiday are both from the UK but I bought those are grafted bare root plants, not seeds).

I've gotten the dog Rose seeds from ebay from UK and those grew true they were real.

I know all about fake seeds a friend was sent fake cacti seeds that ended up being weed Daisy seeds from ebay.

I might order seeds just to see what I get, as long as they grow its worth it for fun. Then I can leave feedback and if they aren't exact, negative feedback.

Must have the blue strawberries to go with the watermelon. I noticed a 14 day warranty with the purchaser having to pay return shipping! Wow what a deal! Do people really buy these things! I need to get the paint gun out!

Sue - Considering how proliferic these types of auctions & sellings are on eBay & Amazon, I'd say, yes, some people really *are* that gullible. Sad, honestly... I've learned the hard way long long time ago to double-check ANYTHING I buy online as far as plants to make sure that what I'm buying & what they're selling are the same thing. For instance, I was looking at this auction here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jean-G...

It's for a Jean Giono rose. I was struck by the extreme golden color & would love to have it. But then I double-checked it here and found it to be totally different and NOT what I would want.

Rose (Rosa 'Jean Giono')

And then I saw that this seller was using the same image for Sheila's Perfume, which, as you know, looks completely different.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sheila...

Floribunda Rose (Rosa 'Sheila's Perfume')

Buyer Beware. But Blue Strawberries would be super cool...

I guess they want to attract shoppers who are searching for a grid but will settle for a Women Lady Girl Hollywood Warm Neck Jacket Coat Scarf Shawl Wrap instead. Rolling on the floor laughing

All of this online selling fraud started back in the early 60's with ads for "Sea Monkeys" in the backs of magazines !
Anyone remember those ? LOL
