I love this photo, but I am sure it is not 'Florence Vaughan'.

This canna has been mis-named & mis-ID'd over many, many years. Most of these pics (with the exception of pic. 2) look to be 'Cattleya', a totally different canna.
Pic. 2 appears to be 'Roma' with a natural variation it develops in 'hotter than normal' weather.

I have 'trial grown' (over 7 yrs) the 3 most 'alike' cannas with these colour variations that get mis-ID'd for each other: Roma, Britannia & Cattleya.
I cannot find an 'Italia' correctly named (showing the hare-lip) as yet after quite a few yrs .. but still working on it.
They have colour differences in bloom & leaf form.

MOST cannas ID'd as 'Florence Vaugh' are actually Roma. try this link:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

Here is a link to info on 'Italia' that cannot be faulted:

Dianne is referring to photos posted by @plantladylin, @joy, and @Kelli, as well as @Sheila_FW. All of these photos appear to be of cannas other than 'Florence Vaughan.' They probably are 'Roma.' According to Wikipedia, virtually all of the plants sold as Florence Vaughan in the United States are actually Roma.

:) I have this in my data base as well .. it was this & checking a recent local canna enquiry here in country NSW that prompted me to check it on ATP.
Currently, I am waiting for photos of the Florence Vaughan from said enqiry .. and holding my breath, with a bit of Drooling

And this is a pic of my correctly named 'Roma', in 'normal' colours & form without any instability from excessive temp.
I have never had it grow showing like- attributes to 'Britannia', 'Cattleya' (see pics posted to those cannas) or 'Italia' over nearly 8 seasons I have been growing it. There are aslo differences in each varieties foliage/stems/flowering traits etc.

This confuses me, you wrote "Here is a link to info on 'Florence Vaughan' that cannot be faulted:" and then you link to one called Canna 'Italia'. Confused

It was the correct link to show 'Italia' & it's 'hare-lip' .. as in a comparison to the other 3 most mis-ID'd cannas as 'Florence Vaughan'. I mis-noted what the link was for .. it is now corrected to eliminate further confusion. The link was used as I do not have a 100% correctly named 'Italia' here to use with the info.

Hope this fixes the post. Smiling

I'm inclined to move all of the photos in question to the Canna 'Roma' entry because I'm not sure that Canna 'Cattleya' is sold in the United States. All of the vendors seem to be in Australia.

I'm moving the photos to Roma. They were all posted by U.S. gardeners. The photo owners haven't joined in this discussion, but I hope @plantladylin is aware of the discussion and will edit her personal plant list to reflect this change. Any Florence Vaughan plant sold in the United States is actually Roma. The two other owners of Florence Vaughan have posted no photos and do not include their addresses in their profiles, so I suppose it's possible that they may have bought the plant in another country, but just in case they also have a mislabeled canna, @bgentle and @paula763 should also edit their plant lists to reflect the change from Florence Vaughan to Roma.

:) I have contacted another Aussie collector that I trust impeccably re correct canna names .. I have purchased from them while adding to my collection, many times & sort their advice along the way.
I shall be sending you a 'tree mail' shortly with results of my contact with them .. it would be correct to move them as you say .. more in my mail to you shortly. Thumbs up
