Love July Snow. And I don't have that one, and I would just bet it's one of Lisa's.

I am just so afraid that something is going to happen to some of my Lisa ones, and no place to replace them, unless they do go into production.

I do think that it is a blessing in Lisa's orientals that they propagate themselves, most orientals do not, here in this climate (zone 5) and alkaline soil. I love orientals but truly most of them fade out and are merely shadows of their former selves with years gone by, if they remain at all. It may be her use 'Rosario' in her breeding that has made this possible with the Queens. 'Rosario' does pretty well here.

So here's to hoping Lisa's lilies live on in our gardens. Cheers!

Orientals & crosses have suffered this month in scorching temperatures and lack of rainfall. In spite of this, my favorite and arguably nicest Oriental is coming through it all with little suffering and damage. They are all suffering to some degree from heat stress!

The fabled "Casa Blanca"; I can never tire of this plant!

"Journeys End" (NOT Star Gazer) Created & Hybridized By Dr. J. S. Yeates, Manawatu, New Zealand. His son, Mr. G Yeates has asked to use some
of my pictures in a book he is writing. I would like to quote one of his comments here from an e-mail I have from him, "My father, Dr J S Yeates, bred
Journey's End and many other lilies. Several of his clones are known for their resistance to disease and their persistence; so it is interesting to note
that you have grown it for 10 years." He is right: It is very disease resistant, and seems to come through all weather conditions. These are pictures
from Tuesday, July 19, 2010. Mr. Yeates e-mail was dated December 3, 2010.

Those are just beautiful Leon! I thought you were an iris person. Love the avatar, also.

What an honor to be asked to use your pictures in a book! Could you let us know the name of the book when it comes out?

Polly, I've lost contact with Mr. Yeates since December 2010, after giving permission to use the image. Here is a part of what he said about the book:

[Quote] "I am preparing a chapter on lily breeding in my part fo the world (New Zealand) and would like permission to use your image. The chapter is for a book describing some scientific successes in out region and is written for 15-18 years old school students. It is being published by a scientific society on a not-for-profit basis." [Unquote]

So, I let it go at that; and it sounded like something he was doing for high school students on a non-profit basis. Should I hear from him again I'll certainly ask about it. Smiling

Lovely Leon!

I think this is White Stargazer. My regular Stargazer and also Salmon Classic both got sunburned badly this year. Just too hot for them.

The weather here has been brutal on lilies and about everything else. Our big problem is no rainfall! The heat is unbearable and has a lot of plants stressed out. That White Stargazer is stunning!
