I grew 2 generations last year... from a few kernels sent me by Nan Ondra.
http://hayefield.com/2013/10/0...

She gardens in PA... probably be worth talking to her...

Corn is wind pollinated, and is generally grown in patches... But I did ok by hand pollinating my few stalks... I collected the loose bits from the tassels and sprinkled over the silks on the ears...

I would not want to attempt growing in a container... But due to the vole problem I have... all my plants were started in gallon pots and then set out in the garden after they were large enough to handle...

Howsa bout setting the corn out in little fences? Or just fencing the dogs out of a small area?

Just checked her site and Nan lives just a hard stone's throw from me! I will definitely check out more of her info when I get the chance!! Thank you for the link Thumbs up

Right now it's a bit hard for me to "put it in the ground" but if my plans come through, maybe next spring. Right now I'm kinda wanting to try it just to see if I can! Whistling
I hate losing plants....I know they are "just plants" but when you nurse them along and baby them and get them to grow, bloom, and be pretty and they die....it's like losing a friend..... Crying

You don't have to cover the roots. Corn is supposed to produce above ground adventitious roots.

Yes, but from seedling to mature plant the roots grow a lot and of they are never covered the plant will flop over and break in heavy wind or rain.
