I grew popcorn and left the ears in storage for 4 months, when I try to pop off the kernels im having trouble as they shrunk and are tightly packed. I need to get them off so I can plant the seeds come warm weather.

Keith, I had some "mini Indian corn" that I had saved and wanted to get the kernels off to share seed and had the same problem -- I ended up just holding the larger end of the cob in one hand and, with a leather garden glove on the other hand, just kind of grabbing the other end and twisting, which worked amazingly well. Those were pretty small ears, though, so I'm not sure if it would work as well with the larger "regular-size" corn.

It's worth a try, I tried bending the ear and it's still flexible so it might work, hopefully kernels won't fly everywhere lol!

Keith, the kernels do tend to fly around a bit -- I held mine down partially inside a cooking pot to catch the kernels. And the ear doesn't need to be flexible, you just kind of twist your (gloved) hand around the cob to rub the kernels off...probably wasn't too clear with the way I originally put that! Smiling

Thanks for clarifying that, Sandy. I think most of us had the wrong idea (or had no idea).
