Alrighty -- let's see if we can take the top two spots in thread activity this week. Green Grin!

First of all -- if I've missed a color that anyone thinks we should include -- please say so. For instance -- I was wondering if we should have Wine/Burgundy as a separate color?

For today: I have noticed, as I've gone through my Irises over the past ten days or so, that I keep passing up certain cultivars because their color *didn't quite fit* into the category of each day. I'm guessing that others have experienced the same thing.

So -- today is Oddball Day. Show us your Oddball Irises -- even if you showed them in another color category trying to fit them in.

I'll start off with Thornbird. Thornbird is a color all by itself -- mine is a greeny-grey.

Another oddball is Trade Secret.

Seen from a distance, it looks yellow -- sort of:
Thumb of 2015-02-17/Muddymitts/5fda35

Up close -- it's closer to chartreuse:

It's so chartreusey that that's the descriptive color I use in my database. Blinking

Another one I have difficulty with is Role Model. In the database, it's described as "melon rosy tan with peach influence" -- what?????
Thumb of 2015-02-17/Muddymitts/e15db7 Uh-huh -- tell me what color group that belongs in.............

Clump shot of Role Model:

Even the Iris itself can't decide what color it is. Look at all the varieties of color in the clump....................

Micro micro-climate? Micro soil?

I have Black Gamecock. Is it purple or black?

Another Iris that I have difficulty in describing is World of Color:

Christopherson, 2003

When someone asks me what color that is -- my answer is "I dunno -- kinda rosy peachy lavendery................"

Exxxxxxxactly Celia! It's *sort of* both. On any given day it can look more like one color or the other -- and sometimes during the same day depending on the time of day and the light.

The ones I have a hard time describing, too are purples. For instance...

Do you want us to use this for the multi colored ones, like 3 or more colors in a bloom, or just the odd colors we aren't sure of?

That's where shade makes all the difference, Celia. Sunlight changes everything!

American Maid is another oddball. I used it in the lavender/violet category because it has those colors in it.

But it's not really a lavender Iris, is it?
