We now have over 18K members. Anyone think it would be fun to celebrate the person who is the 20k member? Maybe by each of us sending an acorn? Or something? Any ideas?

That would be an interesting and fun thing to do. Not only could we congratulate and welcome that twenty-thousandth subscriber, all we members, or perhaps just Dave, could make a celebration of that milestone. What do you think, Dave?

I would think that the vast majority of (future) subscribers would have no clue what's going on with that 20K "celebration". I would imagine most find their way to ATP simply by searching for a gardening site. I could be wrong about where new subscribers come from though. Shrug!

I think each member is equally important Lovey dubby .
So whether they were number 200 or number 20K, each on is a welcome addition to ATP and each will earn acorns in their own time. Participation is the way to earn acorns. Thumbs up

I agree Greene. But I still think it would be a "fun" thing to plan and do.

Well, a celebration for the 20,000th member or a celebration for all 20, 000 members? What ever it is, it should be fun.

I think most people who signup do so in order to receive our weekly newsletter. More than half our members are subscribed to it. They signup and generally just read it. So I feel like showering the 20,000th signup with acorns might even go un-noticed by the person!

Good point, Dave. I did not realize that. I am so active on ATP (no joke!) that I don't even subscribe to the newsletter. Perhaps I should. *Blush*

Doing something special for the 20,000th member would be nice, but it is also a celebration of a site milestone. So we should plan way to celebrate the site as a whole. Perhaps give 20 acorns to each member (1 acorn per thousand), a special banner for that day. An article about how ATP came about, from DG, to Cubits, then ATP. You could talk about the early days of building the site, submit questions to charter members about those days and add them to the article. Anyone else have Ideas on how we could celebrate, that milestone?

I'm with Calif-Sue - I'm here everyday too and spend way too much time looking at current photo's and I'm always surprised at the ones I missed that come through the newsletter.

I like Jay's idea. Those of us that have followed Dave and Trish for 14 plus years love to reminisce and I think the newer members would love seeing the stories. Lovey dubby That said, everyday here is a celebration of some sort. It's a colorful, informative, fun place to be Thumbs up

I love the thought and idea of making a big celebration, but we kinda just did that. Smiling In January we dedicated a whole week to ATP and had lots of articles about the site and its history, etc. I feel like it's a little early to do another big celebration about the site.

We've got a lot of great events coming up this year that celebrate the various plants and I think we should look more to those. Smiling

I agree with @greene but everyone else seems to want a celebration of sorts and i like the idea of a site celebration a little bit more than a random 20k person celebration...maybe at 25K members, again at 50K members, etc....something participatory for all admin and members...maybe a place for people to express what ATP means to them and why it is important for them...something like that.
