Does anyone have experiance with this plant?? Would love info specifically for the "dwarf" plants. LOVE these but know that they are not hardy in my zone 6 area...was thinking of growing in a big pot in my future hummingbird/butterfly garden.

Would it be worth the effort to try it??

I hate losing plants....I know they are "just plants" but when you nurse them along and baby them and get them to grow, bloom, and be pretty and they die....it's like losing a friend..... Crying

Hi Kim,

I think it would be well worth it for your B'fly/Hummingbird garden! The hummingbirds especially love Bottlebrush blooms! I have the Weeping Bottlebrush (Callistemon viminalis) in my backyard and the hummingbirds are really attracted to those bright red flowers. I read that Callistemon subulatus is a shrub that's hardy to 10ºF so I'd think you could easily grow it as a container plant and move it indoors when temp's drop. Another dwarf variety that should be good for containers is Dwarf Bottlebrush (Callistemon citrinus 'Little John')

The "Little John" looks like a good choice too. I adore the Mimosa trees but they get WAY!!! too big and don't want to worry about them being invasive....

The bottlebushes seem like a good compromise....

I'd love to have some more plants but reached my quota for my room.

I have one in a very large pot, where it's been happy for about 5 years. One of these days I should get out as much "dirt" as possible and top dress it. It blooms constantly and I'm very fond of it.
