I have two google alerts for "texas native plants" and "native plants of texas". Anytime google finds these terms in web site it sends me an e-mail link. I just received links to both of these alerts and they both pointed to ATP Hurray!

I've just gotten two on Google from FB liking TX Gardening at ATP.
I have a question about the +1. When I click it, it says it will share info about me. What kind of info?

If you click on the +1 then you can create a member profile with google.com. Then, later on, if people look at your profile at Google, they can see which pages you have +1'ed.

Is this like Google's answer to FB? Is this going to track things I like to visit?
( I answered my own question, didn't I. Just read about this the other day in the paper).

Google Plus is their answer to Facebook. I don't think this "+1" feature we have here is related to Google Plus. I might be wrong, but my understanding is that they are separate and different.

The last two sentences in the privacy policy concern me. In addition to my personal e-mail addresses, I have an e-mail list of over 100 garden club members and editors of other nat'l garden clubs....people I don't personally know. I'd hate to think Google would be able to send everyone in my address book, some total strangers, my "+1s." Is this what they're proposing?

.......In order to use the Google +1 button, you need to have a public Google Profile visible to the world, which at a minimum includes the name you chose for the profile. That name will be used across Google services and in some cases it may replace another name you’ve used when sharing content under your Google Account. We may display your Google Profile identity to people who have your email address or other identifying information.

Many people have concerns about giving Google any personal information, and I don't blame them.

I'm not at that point but I understand the privacy concerns that many have. For me, there are far worse companies out there (ahem, facebook) and I do avoid those websites altogether.

It's not the personal info that concerns me. It's that they can send a "blast" to all my contacts. Sort of like FB when they "trick" the new guy into sending out an invitation to their entire address book to view their new FB page. I've gotten those from people I can't even remember...and then I realize they were in Master Gardeners yrs ago, or a friend of a friend. I'd be embarrassed if someone thought I was the one sending them unsolicited links. And there seems to be no way around it. You can create another profile, but it clearly states it may replace other names you've used.
Still reading....

Sandi, I don't see where they can send a blast to all your contacts. I think it's possible you're mis-reading it. I think the whole internet would be up in arms if Google did something like that.

You're right. I guess "blast" was the wrong example... I'll go back and reread it...after dinner....

Soooo....I'm still reading and skipping around the Google site. I'm being a bit cautious because I followed the group over to FB 18 months ago. I still have the guy who "likes" TX Gardening, who lists his interests as Glocks, AK47s, and home canning, on that FB page.

That's about what my profile looks like, too. Smiling

Sandi, one problem with facebook is you learn things about your "friends" that maybe you didn't want to learn!!! Too much information, sometimes.
