What a great monster clump! It reminds me of the photos I have seen of the commercial gardens. sigh

They can be so dramatic in a mass planting.. I've often had good intentions of doing just that... somehow, the collector in me takes over, and the best I can do is broad drifts of one. Hilarious! Oh, actually I did have a mass planting of 'Crimson King' a few years back. It's been chipped away at until it's just a single clump now.. Sadly, 'Crimson King' has been the only Iris that has really thrived in that bed, for whatever reason.

the following year, the clump started getting smaller

I've tossed it out in the pasture and it's grown. Pretty much grows like a weed here... And reblooms too.

I am going to have to try that one here for rebloom.

I would have no problem providing all of you with Crimson King... Or Indian Chief either.. They grow like weeds.

Arlyn, did I send you some Crimson King? I divided my whole clump later. I'm seeing lots of increases but no re bloom.

Yes, but not every year for me. And when it does rebloom its often late and the blooms or buds freeze. You would have better luck with rebloom in your zone I think.

I have Crimson king and its never been a rebloomer for me. Last year I did get a single bud/flower on 1 plant in December when it was super cold time of the year.

I actually had two "donations", Neal.....one California grown, and one from Kentucky. The "California Clump" is doing a LOT of increasing....but no stalks, while the Kentucky Klump" has two stalks .....but not as much increase. So I guess they are using their energy in slightly different ways !

This past year, mine bloomed in January, March/April, June, & August.. It usually doesn't bloom that much, but we had just one little cold snap in December, then summer weather in January and February. Normal years, it's usually the first to bloom, and doesn't rebloom every year.
