It snowed here all day, we got 10-12"s, and under it all a layer of ice from last nights rain. The temps are to drop to like 4*F tonight.

We had a record low of 0*F in Harrisburg last night. I had a bit of ice build-up on the corners of the GH, but nothing serious. The sun is drying everything that has been cleared of snow. Smiling

I'm slowly taking everything out of the hoops. Lots need repotting. I thought I might have two more days before I finished. Then DH reminded me I still have a third of his garage filled with plumerias.
Guess I have a few more days of hard labor. I'm leaving the plumerias until the last moment. We still may have a few cold wet days before spring.

I have to go back to work tomorrow. My plants will have to wait. They are as itchy as I am! Might not be til April til they break free.

I think Old Man Winter blew his last breath this past weekend. We went down to 37F and got a little bit of snow on Saturday. Yesterday the low went to 48F and the high was 55F.

Fired up the Rocket Mass Heater all day Saturday for my re-potting project. I think that was the last burn for the season!

We are getting back down in the lower 40's this weekend, Melissa and then I think we have smooth sailing. Hurray!

I moved everything out of both GHs over a week ago. No more freezes for us. It's in the 60s at night and near 80 every day. Hubby put up a low voltage fence around a large second yard patio and it seems to be keeping the deer out. Pretty affordable at Home Depot. Not sure my plants are really worth the expense but I am still hoping I get some harvest. The seedlings I planted in the GH did remarkably poorly (sigh). I have a big...no huge ...learning curve. In the past I've done okay buying seedlings that were ready for planting but growing my own seems to be a different story. They start out great and then just stall. The best ones are peppers--jalapeno, Martha California wonder, Anaheim. How many peppers do you need? Haha. My tomato seedlings started in February are only 2-3 inches tall. They will have to grow fast to produce anything before we hit 100. I doubt I will get much from them. We will see. Sadly none of my local friends are gardeners so they can't look at what I'm doing and give me some direction. Am I not feeding them enough, not enough grow light, or what. I will try again this fall and winter but my GH may ultimately just be a place to overwinter my herbs.

Carol as you said there's a learning curve. Did you plant based on a zone guide? You may have to plant a little sooner for your area. We start somethings in February for planting out here in Pennsylvania and our last frost date is Mother's Day. There are a number of guides available, such as USDA and Mother Earth News.

@eric4home I did plant according to the guide (planted 4-6 weeks before I would think I could put the plants into the ground) -- but I think I just didn't water or feed correctly - maybe (not sure). The plants are doing better now that they are outside with "mother nature" and getting natural sun and longer days -- I don't know, hopefully this next winter will be much better. I am not going to try tomatoes and those kinds of things in the GH during Dec-Feb - just too difficult to get them going. Funny thing though, the tomato plants I had in October spent a nice winter in the GH and produced some small tomatoes -- they are happy with the new sunny days and are putting on great. So it seems the plants that were already sizeable when they went into the GH did good -- just the seedlings were not very successful.

Still dropping to the high 30s @ night here but I will have to remove my solar cover so that the power vents will work. We are going to Florida for about 3 weeks and a neighbor will be caring for the GH. She did an excellent job last year and we lost 1 plant as I remember. I hope to have my fan vent installed by fall.
