I've also noticed that the rhizomes themselves, on some cultivars, are lightly colored purple. I read about that on a website once, checked, and darn if it ain't so! Immortality, and Low Ho Silver are 2 that show it ...Arlyn

Does anyone know if Tangerine Sky has purple-base foliage? This was one of my older, maybe box store Iris (which usually aren't true to name, so I have found, but an almost look-alike).

I noticed that Immortality wasn't on the list that had been made. It is truly PBF?

Immortality doesn't have Purple Based Foliage, but DOES have what is "known" as PRR, or purple Ringed Rhizomes. Irises of Shadowood has a listing of cultivars that have it....Arlyn

I was noticing some irises that have purple edged bloom covering before it opens and took a few pictures this morning. ( I'm not sure what that part of the bloom is called.)
This is Dialect, it's stalks are purple too, but only slight PBF (Much darker then is shows on the pic)

Quantum Leap has no PBF, but has the edge on the bloom covering.
Splashacata had both really dark. Had trouble getting the camera to focus on the stems so they aren't very clear, but I think you can get the idea.

It's usually called a spathe, although I'm not sure it technically is one.

You may have many of these already but the PBF in my gardens: TB's Acoma, Chuckwagon, Coal Seams, Change In The Weather, Grateful Red & Storm Track; HI Quaker Lady; & SDB Cat's Eye.

I just dug up some Sparks Fly and it has a purple-ringed rhizome.

Keep posting any PBF iris and I will check it out and post

Here's what I've found since starting the project. I just finished looking at everything after a hard long downpour last night.
These were not on any list I looked at: (It's amazing how the color changes on the PBF every couple of weeks!)

Almaden, purple runs along the leaves
Baltic Star
Change in the Weather
Chinook Winds
Dardanus Aril
Diamond Lake
Dramatic Style
Forgotten Secret
Gallant Theme

Grateful Red

I'm going to revive this thread. I have a new PBF Iris I received this Spring from Shreiner's. A neighbors dog tried to dig them and I've lost the tags. I looked on several lists and couldn't find mine on any.

Captain's Choice
Kaligazam
Jurassic Park
Witch's Wand
Swept Off My Feet

Anyone know which it might be?

I have only Kaligazam from that list, and it doesn't have PBF. I looked on the data base and didn't see any mention of PBF on any of them, but I noticed that Captain's Choice is a child of "Can't Touch This" which has PBF. Good luck!

I just checked my list from last spring and Jurassic Park does not have PBF. I don't grow the others, except for Kaligazam - which Tom already reported on. Happy Hunting!

I only have one of those (Jurassic Park) and Pam just shot it down. The interesting thing is that PBF comes and goes on most that have it. Few keep it all the time and brightness also changes.

I have found that in the fall the PBF really changes: some gets darker, some gets lighter, some migrates to the edges of the foliage only, some just fades out. Interesting to see how that changes in various varieties throughout the growing season.

I've noticed the color change with the seasons, too.

The dog loose was an accident. I usually only see him while being walked. The owner said he got away while loading him into the truck because a neighborhood cat was close by. The cat got away but the dog took awhile to catch. They remedied that by keeping him on his leash. These are good people and I do not blame them at all.
