We came from here

The thread "Our Orchid blooms in February 2015" in Orchids forum

It is March 1. and with that time for a new thread!
Please join in and have fun! Smiling
Let me start with my old Lc Rojo. I say old, because it was a division many years ago from one of the original plants, not the remake.
It is just starting to open four spikes this year.

Vanda Martha Ragan - strangely enough the spike shows one white bloom! Weird!

Rhyncholaelia glauca keeps on going. Unfortunately the blooms are not blooming together for a nice show, but then at least it has a longer blooming season this way, as the individual blooms only last three or four days.

And the Bc Hippodamia bought recently in bud with a nice bloom-duo

Ken, our weather report sounds like a broken record, we expect 3 - 5 inches snow today, but on a brighter note we might go into the upper thirties and maybe even 40 ish F this week!! Woohoo!!

Sooner or later we just have to break out of our winter-doldrums down here.............. Sighing! We are having almost spring-like weather Monday through Wednesday, with nights above 40F and days in the 60's, with Tuesday predicted to be 72F. After a month of being unable to do so, I can ship some plants out tomorrow and Tuesday (all to deep south locations though). I will spend this afternoon, boxing up about 20 orchids and have a few more than will go out Tuesday. Hey, that's a start! Thumbs up

Other than in protected, north-exposure areas, the last of our snow melted yesterday.

Was just about to lament that I wanted some fish tank water when I realized - I do have fish-y water! Just not in a tank. I think I'll try a few buckets of water from my little pond as a weekly dunk this spring. Hey, I guess I don't really even need to bother with the bucket, just dunk the orchids in the pond. Maybe the fish will benefit from a few bugs off the 'chids as well.

Now I wish I had two plants of the same type again to try this as a real experiment, comparing packaged fertilizer and tap water with fishy fertilizer and pond water. Hmm, I see another Apopka run in my future . . .

Maybe I need more fish, too . . . life is so exciting.

Sounds like a plan, Elaine.
I dump Fishtank water regularly over the small species hanging over the tank, they seem to like it. I soak the Phrags with the stuff too.

That is such a pretty plant, Ursula. Variegated leaves, graceful flowers, wonderful color. It's got it all.

Is it a cool grower? How tall does it get?

Elaine, it is a warm grower, you should be ok with it in your set up. And the tallest spike here measures 2 feet.

Nice start to the new month, Ursula. My Bc. Hippodamia bloom twice a year, fall and spring, but I haven't noticed it yet this year. I'll have to go look for it. My glauca has already finished blooming but my Lc. Eva is right on schedule with her sister Lc. Rojo. Pretty blooms all. Nice colors on the Vanda flower. I love the Stenosarcos. It seems happy in your living room.

Warm and muggy here today with a high in the low 80s.

Talk about weird weather. It is heavily cloudy, light rain off and on, with a high around 48F. Tomorrow is clear with a high of 73F! Wednesday will be in the mid-60's and then winter hits again. The rest of the week down into the 20's-low 30's with snow forecast for Thursday!

We are having "Florida Spring" weather, touching 80 today, high humidity and sunshine. Luckily when it does this in early spring we get the lovely sea breeze generated by the land warming up and the cool air blowing in from the Gulf is just wonderful. But . . as Tara said, it is forecast to cool off for us by next weekend as well. I do hope the nights stay reasonable, as I'm just getting everyone situated nicely outside.

We had spring in Feb. Now we're doing winter. 53 deg. on the porch, and heavy rain, with a slight chance of hail. Might make it up to 1/2" before it passes. Big Grin

Hilarious! It's not that cold, Ken! Now that that front has moved on, it's 66 on the porch, and our nights haven't gone below 49. We usually get one small hail storm a year. Just enough to spot the leaves on the outside orchids, but this one missed us. Hurray! I hear the beach areas were white though.

Whenever you think it's safe there. If we have night time lows, I do have a small greenhouse. Just let me know.
