And the box would make a great plant container stand. Maybe with filler, thriller and something to spill partially covering the box.

I was thinking along that line too. The box could be constructed to be just the right size and and plan on some spillers that will at least partially cover it when grown out. I don't think it is a big deal if some of the box shows.
