Well, my plan is to plant one in the sun (rose bed), one in a location where I have grown hostas before but they do suffered from sun scald during the summer(bed with bird bath),one in a spot that has daylilies but not quite enough sun for them (south facing bed), and one in the Hosta bed next to 'So Sweet' (regular Hosta bed) ,I want to see how closely they resemble each other in performance throughout the year.

My money is on #2. There's lots of precedent for distributors doing strange things with plants in order to sell more.

But do give it a try and let us know how things are going in a few years. I believe one year of not having a dormancy won't kill the hosta, but with a few things there will be a general decline until the plant just disappears.

That's an interesting list for pod sterile hostas. As you can see, there are quite a few. In addition, there are some hostas which will produce seed which will germinate, but won't produce viable plants - 'Cherry Berry' is one such. Virtually all seedlings are "fatal whites" (with no chlorophyll) and they don't live long.

And even if you have only one variety of hosta, virtually all the hostas grown today are hybrids. As such, they won't come true even if self-pollinated.

So, hosta seedlings are mostly solid green (or solid blue or yellow). Why do some of us persist in growing our seeds? Well, I guess we just want masses of plain Jane greenies (just kidding). You can get other characteristics in your seedlings - frilly leaves, red petioles, etc. And now and then you get wonderful surprises as well. I've got 3 or 4 seedlings I'm still growing years later. But you need to develop the ability to cull mercilessly or find friends and neighbours with large lots to grow all your rejects.

Well, actually in my zone 8b I am fully expecting the plant to have a dormant period, because we have a lot of freezing weather during the winter. I will observe the plant and if it does as expected it should be the last plant to do into dormancy and I am hoping one of the first to wake up from dormancy.

I purchased my first Sun Hosta plant in the spring of 2017. The plant sailed through the summer here in Central Florida and came through the winter without foliage loss. Planted near house in protected area open areas of the garden saw a 27f low this past winter

@Seedfork Whatever happened to the SunHostas? For a buck each I would have enjoyed them and not cared much either way, but I read through the whole thread- now I'm curious... Did they survive in full sun? Die off?
I have, well my hubby has (and I enable) a shade garden of about 20 hostas (and more coming, but he doesn't know it yet). If there are hostas that do well in sun, I haven't seen them... Not that I would plant them necessarily, b/c the sun is for the daylilies!

@ShakespearesGarden
They are still growing and doing well in my garden, except for one which I gave to my daughter just a couple of weeks ago!

@Seedfork Hurray!
Did you figure out what the actual variety is? Is it a bred-for-sun-Hosta, or just a hosta that someone discovered can handle sun?

No I was never able to determine for sure, but I have one planted right next to 'So Sweet' and they are extremely similar in behavior and appearance.

Thanks for the info...
I'm trying to figure out which hostas I actually have...We inherited four or five kinds with this house, transplanted a few from the old house and have purchased a bunch. Didn't keep the tags for most of those, but now I'm regretting that...

I know I have Guacamole, and Stained Glass (just bought SG yesterday...)
