The photo is of 2 heat mats my dad made for starting my caudiciform seeds. Most of the seeds will do best at temperatures between 80 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. So far the temperature is ranging between 82 and 87 degrees.

Each mat is 1' by 4' , using exterior plywood, fir strips and an 18 foot incandescent rope light.

That looks great! I'm running a 12' string under my seedlings now and I have been very pleased with the results.

Good luck with your seeds!

I need to look for some of those old, incandescent, rope-lights. Everything now are LED's and they emit no heat.

I found the incandescent ropes at home depot up here in Memphis about six weeks ago, but not one Lowe's/Target/whatever around here had anything.

You should be able to find a source on Amazon too

OK. We only have a Lowe's and they only have LED ones.

Thank you Wayne. l am hoping for good results. Smiling

And Ken, l'm not sure what shipping costs will be, but here is a link to Home Depot

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Com... These are the ones my dad used.

http://www.homedepot.com/s/inc... This page has a lot. You can compare prices to ebay.

So far the temperature is staying @ 80 degrees fahrenheit. I would like the temperature in the high 80's, but l keep my house about 65 in the winter to save on electric bill. Sticking tongue out It would help if the sun would shine more, nodding , its been gloomy for several weekd
s now it seems.

Next year, I have to figure out a plan to leave some horizontal space in the GH house for seed-starting. This idea would help! @Reine how about submitting this to the Ideas section with all the How-To's? I tip my hat to you.
