I purchased this variety as 'Thai Constellation' just before Asiatica closed down (that was a sad day ). Some say this variety is synonymous with the true M. deliciosa 'albo variegata'. It's still very small, having been kept quite cold all winter, but each leaf is larger than the last and I'm eagerly awaiting the next.

Below it in the one gallon pot is a much smaller variety often sold as M. deliciosa 'albo-variegata', or M. borsigiana 'albo variegata', or M. deliciosa 'Borsigiana albo variegata' etc.

Very slow growing so far. I think I see why it's so expensive. I've two new leaves on each of two growth points since March, and the plant is well pampered in the brightest section of the greenhouse. At this rate I'll be taking divisions in a couple years. Perhaps it will grow faster as it gets bigger. I'm planning to repot and probably bring it inside over the winter.

Wow! That is growing about the rate of a bonsai tree!

Lost all of the leaves on it during the winter when its greenhouse got down to 35F, but I saw no damage to the roots or stem. It is just now starting to put out new shoots and leaves. Next winter it will go into the inner greenhouse where it stays warmer.

Thankful I didn't lose it, but it is very slow growing. The greenhouse it is in has seen bright light and temperatures from 60F(night) to 100F(day) for months now, so I don't know why it took so long to grow again.

I have a couple of forms of this; one of the recent ones was a cultivar named 'Cheesecake' - it seems to be a good grower.

Feed and water the things like mad all summer and they should make some fast growth.

Hi Evan, 'Cheesecake' looks pretty much like my other forms, but it may have a little more speckling of white in the "green" areas of the leaf. I'll shoot some pictures later and post here.

It was available briefly last year from some Florida grower, but I heard the tissue culture went bad, and the supply disappeared. They were cheap, too...

Hey Dave, searched monstrosa cheesecake and found very little. This would be very nice to have in the DB.

I would love to see any comparative photos and experiences you have with different varieties. Monstera is a one of my favorite plants (okay, I have a lot of those) and I wish it were better understood and available. 'Cheesecake' is a new varietal name to me, too.

Sorry, Paul and Evan, I haven't had any time as of late. 'Cheesecake' was propagated by Morning Dew Tropicals, but I don't know if they were the originator. There are a bunch of good photos of the various forms over at DG's plant files.

Old thread, but couldn't find any newer discussion on the subject, and still looking to see if any others have experience with this plant.

Having bumped a couple variegated monsteras outside into half day sun this year, I'm getting ~one leaf/month, with minor sun damage. I'm going to try feeding it more. The leaf here is two feet across, both top to bottom and side to side. Not the best picture, I know.

That looks pretty happy Paul. I know @homer1958 grows a few variegated Monstera. What do you use for a mix? I don't grow any but thought they liked an open potting media closer to orchid mix.

Looking good! I grow M. deliciosa, M. deliciosa albovariegata, & M. deliciosa borsigiana. All three are pretty easy to grow in my warm-temperate climate. They don't seem to be picky about soil type, I just try to make sure it's well-draining. If you give them something sturdy to climb on, you will really see an explosion in leaf size!!

Mine get mostly shade with some filtered sun, but in the past, I've grown M. deliciosa in full sun with no problem. I've always given the variegated ones at least part shade, but in our brutal summers, even the most sun loving plants appreciate a little shade from the intense midday sun.

Here's a pic from last year of one of my M. deliciosa albovariegata from last year. I think this leaf is about 2' across. I'm out of town now, but I'll get a current pic when I get home.

Here are a few pics of my M. deliciosa albovariegata from today. The first is my larger one - the newest leaf is about 24"x26". It's in an 18" (or so) clay pot and has an old log that it is growing up for support. You can see a "regular" (non-variegated) M. deliciosa peeking in from the bottom of the second photo. That one is in the ground.




Here is my smaller one (it's not really that much smaller than the other one anymore). It seems to have nicer variegation on the leaves that emerge from left side of the stem. The upper left leaf is approx. 18"x19". The newest leaf on the upper right is a little larger, but I forgot to measure that one. It's in a 14" glazed pot but, but needs to be bumped up at this point. The support it's growing up is one I made from an 8' cedar fence post I cut in half.




I do little with these guys other than toss some fertilizer in a couple times a year and water once or twice a week. Very easy maintenance!

Some leaves have more large white areas. The most notable difference in this one from the other variegated forms I have, is that Cheesecake has fine speckles of white in all the green parts.

Is Cheesecake a valid name ?

Lol it took you 6 years to post a pic. I don't think psa and eclayne post on here anymore. I know it's been a while since I've seen anything from either one of them but thanks for the update.
