It was in someone's garden, growing on a fence. Which is this?

As sooby suggested, it could be Flame Vine (Pyrostegia venusta)

Do you have a photo of the leaves?

My eyes aren't that great and I couldn't see the leaves clearly in either photo but the blooms sure look like:

I agree Was going to say Bignonia venusta and looked at your link, Sooby. I am getting too old to have to relearn all those plant names. Smiling

It appears that all of you are right. Smiling Bignonia venusta and Pyrostegia venusta are the same plant.

Oh I can sooo relate to that Jean! I didn't know it was Pyrostegia until I looked at the picture of Bignonia. Quite a few times I've looked at a plant name that someone mentions and draw a complete blank only to find that I know it under what is now an "old" name. I sometimes find it hard enough to remember the ones that haven't changed names *Blush*

Those damn taxonomists...
Sucked us in to using botanical names under the premise that then everybody would know which plant we were referring to... because... while they might have multiple "common names", they each only have 1 botanical name...
Then they go and switch out the names on us...

Thanks everyone. In fact, I had a dream to grow this climber on our compound wall, but I did not find it at the time I wanted it, even after searching a few nurseries. This was about 5-6 years ago.
This photo now [of the climber in full bloom] was taken by me during my tour to Chandigarh, to a place called "Pinjore Gardens" which has a long history - see inscripition attached for info.
