I have this plant for quite some years now and for me it does not bloom as often as I like. This may be due to the care it is getting from me. I'd like to know which one is this?

Hi, Dinu!
This flower reminds me of Fish Geranium (Pelargonium x hortorum)

Can you show a pic of the leaves, whole plant?

In the last two months, I repotted the plants. I could not know which was the red one and which was the pink as they did not flower for a long time. This is that I got now... growing well, still no blooms.

Hi Dinu, Yes, the leaves also look like the Pelargonium x hortorum aka. Fish Geranium. Though your's is not the same 'variety' as the one I have, this is a link to mine... Fish Geranium (Pelargonium x hortorum Americana® Light Pink Splash)

The general plant information would be the same.

Is it extremely difficult to identify certain plants? I got my geraniums from my friend's garden many years ago and they just grew them as a hobby and there are hardly anyone here that grows plants with a label! I saw the Fish Geranium... it's very beautiful. The leaves also as you say, looks very similar.

Pelargonium x hortorum is a good guess at the genus and species, but I think it would be almost impossible to identify the specific cultivar, Dinu. We have about a thousand Pelargonium cultivars listed in our database, and there probably are many others we haven't listed yet. It would be like the proverbial hunt for a needle in a haystack.

You are very right zuzu. This matches the proverb. So does some of the varieties we have in our gardens. As amateur gardeners, we have to stop at one stage and be satisfied. This is why there is a need for an entry where cultivar identity can be difficult. In case someone wants, that plant photo is always there for further identification, if one thinks of it. Then they can be moved. I know it takes a lot of work and time but till then they can be there.

Sat on this for 51 weeks and now the plant has thrown up one bud cluster. Will see if it is the same or the pink one... which also I had. Thanks for the link - I'll move it there.... have a couple of more old photos as well.
