As members of ATP and customers of plant nurseries (on-line as well as those in our local areas) I think we should all try to remember to help our Green Pages grow by posting recommendations.

That being said, I was lax in not remembering to post a recommendation for drdawg/Ken Ramsey's cottage business "Tropical Plants and More" when I ordered from him last summer. *Blush* I did go to the Green Pages this afternoon and posted a recommendation for him and I'm really going to try to be better in the future by adding recommendations for companies as soon as I receive my order.

Hey, there are two listings for you ken. Tropicalplantsandmore, and Tropical Plants and More. 3 and 12 recommendations, depending on how you look it up.

I can't recall ever seeing a more unanimously enthusiastic set of reviews.

Even the least enthusiastic reviews used the word "excellent".

On any other website, I would have guessed that Ken, his mother, and people who owed him lots of money must have written the reviews.

On this website, it means that he IS as good an orchid vendor as he is a good guy.

Sorry if I make you blush!

My experience is that a negative experience with a supplier of any kind - insurance, plants, vehicles, furniture, physicians - is more likely to result in anonymous feedback than multiple positive experiences from the same vendor. It's human nature to focus on the negative, I think. So I'd ask which experience would you be more likely to dwell on to the point of leaving feedback? I use caution with this kind of feedback because of that. Proportion counts. If there is a LOT of negative feedback, it is useful. If there is only one or two negatives, then it's less useful to me. I'm somewhat cautious about relying too heavily on feedback unless there's a lot of it. Also, when feedback is public about identifying who is giving the feedback, then I think some people would rather not be so public and don't give feedback at all. In the plant world, my experiences have all been pretty good or at least met my expectations (in some cases they were low, so the bar wasn't high), but I'd probably not be too inclined to be quick to leave negative feedback. I can always invent a lot extenuating scenarios so I wouldn't like to be hasty. I have left negative feedback on occasion (not plant related), but I wouldn't have cared if my name was in red capital letters in association with it either.

I just bumped into a glitch on the Green Pages - went to write a recommendation for Tomato Growers Supply Co. and did not find it listed either on the main alphabetical list or under Tomatoes. When I went to add the company, it said it was 100% sure that it was already listed, but it was "represented" on ATP by a member name.

@dave should I contact the member name and tell them to add their company to the main listing or would you do it? I think they're missing out if they're not listed but maybe they don't want to be? Wonder if there are other companies who think they are listed here, but really aren't?

Gee, I am getting old! I had left a recommendation last September for Ken's company. I think those two entries in the green pages need to be combined into one (Tropical Plants & More.) The one written as Tropicalplantsandmore is how the web address is written.

I am blushing (I'm a very shy person Sighing! ) and I do thank you all who took the time to rate me. Heck, I would be happy if someone just said: "He did his best", and left it like that. I have made my share of mistakes and am quite sure I will make a lot more. Sticking tongue out

I did not know there were two listings. I guess Dave needs to straighten that out for me. Tropical Plants & More is the "company" name and www.tropicalplantsandmore.com is the website.

I see orchids, but not houseplants. Did you take it away or do I need a special kind of jacket?

I'll be interested in seeing the cloud grow. I think that will be useful.

And you said: "...always happy to add new categories. Then you can go through the companies that you know of and add them to the appropriate categories".

Where is the place to do that? I just don't see any place to check off either in the vendor list or in the categories.

I'm trying to (edit to add word here) dig Bermuda grass roots out where they've encroached. I'm blaming them for my obvious lack of comprehension!

When viewing a company in the Green Pages, click on "Edit this entry's details" at the bottom to add them to a new category.

Categories will show on the Green Pages homepage only if at least one company is in that category.

Thank you Dave. That will help both the vendors and the finders nodding . I just tried it out and see 'houseplants' as a box to check, but when I view the green page square cloud, houseplants aren't showing as a category there. Shouldn't it be right there between hostas and irises as a category? Or is too broad to show there?

Sorry for being a pest.

Are there any companies categorized under houseplants yet? I checked and I don't see a single company in that category.

Well, we can solve this right now. Give me a houseplant company and I'll add it to the category and we'll then see houseplants show up on the GP front page.

Ah, that's how it works. I added it to a company. They sell begonias and others they describe as suitable for containers, so I'm assuming there wouldn't be an objection though 'houseplants' sounds like a pretty pedestrian description of what they offer. Green Grin!
