This a photo of a pot I gave to DD a few years ago. She didn't take care of it and left it in a neglected corner. With all the rain we've had, it has resurrected itself and pups...all around the edge of the pot. DD planted the mother plant in the garden. I liberated some of the little ones for garden show friends. Each had a small bulb at the bottom of their stem.

Going to pull my pot apart as soon as I can and see what is in there. I just love this plant.

My voodoo lily is thriving. its growing shoots away from the main stem/roots down the sides of the pot through the drainage hole. and the main stem is big and spotted. on Thursday I'm taking it to my day program and then to my job at a flower shop to show every buddy, better do it soon before it gets too big.

You might be able to flip the pot upside down and pop the pot off, if you succeed you'll be able to pull up and out on those baby's and they'll slip right out without disturbing much. Or the whole thing could fall apart in your hand...

You could maybe just bump it up a size and not shake the roots up, you really don't want disturb the roots once growing if you can help it.

Those babies will almost for sure be entirely separate from the mother, but the longer you wait, the more entwined the roots can get!

I can't resist seeing what's under the ground, so I unpot mine in the fall.

We have had so much rain lately I wanted to wait till the dirt in the pot wasn't a pool of mud. It looks like it is drying out today so I may get a chance to un-pot it and separate the bulbs today.

Oh! Your actually growing them in soil!
That may make things more difficult!

I've had good luck with actually just using the hose to excavate plants that are plant in actual soil, especially if the soil is saturated, konjac shouldn't mind that level of moisture.
Water is almost always a very gentle way to get roots loose from heavy, fine soil, the kind I have here, and I think you should have up there.

Just a thought

No they are in a pot, the pot is outside on the deck and the soil in the pot has been very wet even thought it has drainage and is terra cotta. We have just had a whole lot of rain. If the soil in the pot is just right not too wet or too dry you can get the plants out without disturbing the roots at all.

I understood, I just mean that I use soilless mix, and I just generally assume that everyone does, real soil is usually fine and rinses away, where soiless mix is chunky, and doesn't rinse away at all, but I know that plenty of folks use native soil as potting mix, I've not had great results myself but my wood chip compost pile is making me think I can get away with it soon.
I always worry about pathogens in real soil, but the microbiology of my mix isn't good compared to real living soil. Nematodes are a real threat to amorphs from what I read, and we have LOTS of them here!

Sure would be nice to not have to spend so much on "dirt"!

Oh, Hilarious! Yes I do use a soilless mix in most of my pots as well but I have been know to start digging up soil from the Veggie garden for plants that I am giving away or when I start getting low on ProMix.

ProMix sure is nice stuff but $. In addition to the peat and Perlite I sure would like to know what the other 10-20% is. I've been adding 1/3 pine bark mulch for Amorphs.

We get large bales of Pro-Mix at a discount price, Ric mixes in time release fertilizer and water crystals and then we water in with a liquid fertilizer so the pots get a good start.

I bet that was a hit, Alex!

Holly, I buy Sunshine Mix here. I assume it's pretty much the same mix as Pro-Mix. Both come from Canada. I usually buy a couple of bales, and have half of one left by fall. I always have things to repot or bump up before winter and that finishes the second bale. I used to buy the bales through the Master Gardener co-op, but found the feed store was the same price (about $33.), and readily available. I will try adding the fertilizer pellets to the mix instead of adding to each pot individually. Saves a step!

I un-potted my Voodoo Lily today, There were 7 new plants in there. Do these bulbs grow from seed??? Three of them were right on top of the pot within the first inch of soil, 2 weren't even in the ground. One was down about 3 inches and the other was the only one really low in the pot and they weren't attached to anything, as you said. Sad to say that the one that was very low in the pot broke off, it does have one small root on it so I potted it up but will be surprised if it grows.

Oh yea! They'll grow from seeds!
But they didn't, they grow on long knobby runners, these go every which way under the soil.
I've had them escape thru drainage holes in the pot...
After one season, these runners rot away, leaving nothing behind except the new bulb formed at the tip.
Judging but the roundness of those tubers, those were runner from several seasons ago.

Just a couple of notes, anyone close to a Menards? They have voodoo bulb 2 for I think it was 5.00 I didn't need any but bought it anyway...lol They are shooting up leaves so I knew they were still alive. I bought them for our plant sale, just for fun.

I have a solar gain house and my voodoo lily is blooming in the solar room right now. I love them and would like to have some different varieties. I leave mine in the pot all year and plant things around it, that way when it is dormant the surrounding plants take up the moisture and I remember where voodoo is...lol

I did like you did one year and threw the pot over with some other pots I thought everything was dead in, much to my surprise in July I had this beautiful plant growing...so now I make sure I keep something alive in it.
