I'm sooo not good at identifying stuff but my first thought is seeds of some sort ... I'd look at all the plants growing right in that particular area of the garden to see if you can spot a plant with seedpods still attached for comparison.

They do look like Jack in the Pulpit (Arisaema) seeds: https://www.google.com/search?...

Two varieties that I think grow in Maryland:

Jack in the Pulpit (Arisaema triphyllum)
Greendragon (Arisaema dracontium)

Interesting. Maybe partially digested? These were surrounded by a clear slightly viscous fluid.

Could it be something like raccoon poop? Sometimes they pass a lot of seeds.
Have you looked in the area to see what plants have fruits/seeds?

Whatever they are, I would plant them. It would be a good experiment.
