I find this S. album variety to be a very hardy and attractive plant year round in my zone 8 garden.
In the fall it has interesting reddish/purple leaf tip on each stem, it gives the appearance of tiny lights covering the mounded plant. It goes through color changes ranging from dark purple, purple/brown to green with purple highlights.
