Hi all - I have some Francee Hosta's that are... get this... reblooming. Confused They sprouted up nice buds this summer and bloomed nicely. Now all of a sudden more stems came up and more buds/blooms. Blinking
Now, I live in Minnesota, and winter will be here sooner than I like to admit. I thought that this was weird.
Anyone else seeing this in their gardens??

I did not have any reblooming on any hostas that i have in Wisc [not sure about in IL since i wasn't home most the season]

but I had LACK of blooming. Many of my hostas in Wisc did not even bloom this year.
I know for a fact Guacamole did not bloom, as i was looking forward to it this year.
Many of the newer plants i have, that i got last August, those did not bloom either.

I'm wondering if weather has anything to do with it. We had extremely WET June and July - then a very DRY August and September and going into Oct... I can not even recall the last time it rained anything measurable here. [i think in June and July combined we had about 30 inches! ]

I guess there is always next year.

I can't recall any reblooming this year, but last year Cutting Edge rebloomed and I think something else - maybe Little Sunspot, did too.

I thought I'd noticed a couple reblooming but dismissed it as being my imagination. Now there is one that has a fresh stem of flowers though the leaves are all but gone.
Where are we going, and why am I in this hand-basket?

i also have some blooms although initially i thought is was only a late bloomer - now i remember that i had cut down all the stocks - strange weather year.

Here we are with it nearly Halloween, hardly anything left of 'Twist of Lime' except for the blooming scape

This is not a very clean picture. After several nights of freeze, there is still a bloom!

Well, I certainly don't ever have iris rebloom so I better be thankful for that little hosta.

wow -- that is so cool that you have iris blooming -- I did still have a daylily blooming with buds up until last week... it is a real real late bloomer and of course I lost the tag on that one... no idea what it is but it is pretty....

First really hard freeze coming tonight (25 degrees is a big freeze for us :-). Went to cover containers and such, saw this Patriot bud. Been in the container for two years. Guess it likes it--the slugs can't get to it, either!

Heh, enjoy it!! It is going to be a long time before I see any buds. We're under a blizzard warning.

When my hostas are only 1-2 years old I actually cut the blooms/stalks back because I read that the plant will put more energy into rooting and leaf development that way, but sometimes it backfires and up sprouts just as many new stalks!

The only time I cut off scapes/buds is if the plant is newly planted or not in the ground yet. But once or twice I've had them throw up new scapes after being cut. I wasn't sure if they were reblooming or if the new scapes were just later in coming up than the others.
Check out Petiole Junction, my garden blog! (I'd love your comments.)
