Here is a thread to post where to get great information about hostas (links, books, etc).

The great pic and information link:

The latest greatest book:
The Hosta Encyclopedia by Mark Zillis

The Hosta Encyclopedia is indeed a GREAT book (in more ways than one - it numbs the thighs), but it's not the best book to ID a hosta as it's HUGE and they are organized alphabetically - not the best for trying to put a name to a yellow hosta.

Shameless pitch here - The Color Encyclopedia of Hostas or better yet, the New Encyclopedia of Hostas - both from Timber, both from Diana Grenfell and Mike Shadrack, are organized by color. They don't include the volume of plants that the Zillis book does, but they do include the hostas grouped by color order. That way, if you've lost a name, you can go to that color section and see if you can match it up. Also, the newest book (The New Encyclopedia) has a chapter on minis. And it doesn't cost $80.

Thanks... we think it's pretty good. There's also the Pocket Guide - much cheaper, but less info. We sell autographed copies through the mail if you can't find it locally. Again - shameless pitch. Lovey dubby

Oh, I see you've answered my question that I posed on another thread. Seek and ye shall find. It's that organization of hostas by colour that is very valuable. I also like the pocket guide but it's alphabetical and, of course, not as inclusive. Handier to carry around though.

When you go here http://cubits.org/Hostas/db/ho...
Choose "advanced search"
You can fill in any fields, choose any checkmarks, etc., just like when we entered the records.
There is no "OR" type of selection, so you will need to do more than one search if you can't find what you want.
