Do you have a well-prepared site for planting your bulbs? If not, you may want to learn from my mistakes, and work up an area and plant annuals for now, improve the soil, eliminate weeds, and so on, and then plant bulbs somewhere down the road a bit... many things, such as daffodils, are best planted in the fall.
On the other hand... if you are in zone 5, as I am (supposedly, at least, although I think we're more like 4b), you could certainly plant some "tender" bulbs now (which you would have to dig in the fall and store over the winter), which is basically the same as growing annuals. Gladiolus, dahlias, caladiums and cannas come to mind here.
