I just picked up a couple of these because the tag said they were cold hardy to zone 3. http://www.foreverandeverplant...
That's a huge difference from zone 7. Blinking Any thoughts on the reliability of this info?

It seems that the growing zone is all over the charts, and depends on what site you are looking at. Some say zone 3, others zone 7.
It has been down to single digits in my yard with full exposure to ice, very little snow, and lots of rain through the winter and spring. It does need fast draining soil, lack of it seems to be the real killer of this plant.
Let us know how yours does through the next winter season. That should give us a better idea of what it is capable of.

Will do. It's in the rock garden area, so its drainage should be good...maybe too good. The rock garden is new, so it's very much in trial stage as well.

Thanks, Lynn.

Mine tend to be quite drought tolerant once they are established.
And this one is tough as nails, I have it in full sun, in one of the raised semp beds. It only gets watered maybe 3 times the entire summer.

Still love that one, too. I hope Bishop's is just as tough, as I have it planted on the south side of the RG. It'll get plenty of sun and heat there this summer.

I have my 'Bishop's Form' in to much shade, so it doesn't bloom. I will be moving it this month into full sun.

No. It's a shame too, as it was such a pretty little plant.

I know this is an old thread, and I'm new on here and finding it hard to get to and navigate some of these topics, such as Erodiums and Rock Gardens.

I want to say that there is NO WAY Erodium 'William Bishop' is hardy in zone 3. It is not hardy in my zone 4.

By the way, 'William Bishop' is the new name for the popular 'Bishop's Form'. Using the name 'form' was not acceptable under the nomenclature rules. Using the name 'William Bishop' better honours the person that this hybrid is named after.

Hi John. Nice to meet you.
I agree that this Erodium is not hardy to zone 3. In our database entry it gives zone hardiness to zone 7. I'm not sure if anyone has grown it successfully in a lower zone.

There is a nice list of Erodium in our database. You may have already found it.

Have you tried using the search on your home page?
We also have a forum for rock gardening.

I hope this was helpful. I look forward to hearing more about hardiness of different plants, from your experience. It is very helpful to many.

Do you have rock gardens?
