Here is a closeup, the hosta leaf is gold. The entire quilt was completely handmade by the Manson Mennonite Church.

I would love to know where they got the fabric. And if there is a way to get another one like that. Cool.

I have no idea how much contact that specific church has with the outside world, but if you mailed them a letter with a picture of the quilt (feel free to use one of the pics I posted), they might be able to do a custom order. It really is awesome, I'm going to make the relief sale an annual event from now on!

Check out the great big huge ginormous healthy BEAUTIFUL hosta I won at the Wisconsin Hosta Society sale and auction today! People were anticipating this one would go for around $100, but I can tell you that, since it went toward the end of the auction and I was one cool customer who didn't cash in all my chips on one plant early, I got this for a LOT less. Thumbs up

This baby is huge. The photo doesn't do it justice. I barely fit it into the back of my minivan, and had to bend it down a bit (it was none the worse for wear) to get it in.

Hubby and I just started prepping an addition to the front bed for 'Sagae' and friends. They should be planted tomorrow. Hurray!

Great plants Karen! Don't be surprised if that Sagae doesn't come back quite as large next year, I've heard that it is a finicky cultivar about being moved and pouts the year after it is moved.

Here's 'Sagae' in the ground. I planted it solo, and man was it a back breaker! Fortunately my red maple doesn't have a lot of surface roots. As maples go, the red maples seem less thuggish.

Yep, Elizabeth...it did occur to me that this hosta would probably sulk a bit next year. I sort of figured that was the rule when transplanting large hostas in general, but I didn't know that 'Sagae' was particularly prone to pouting.

Now, I wonder where I should plant 'Liberty?' (Pictured at the top of this thread.) Maybe across the sidewalk, where it will eventually balance things out. It would get a bit more sun there than 'Sagae' will get, which should help it color up nicely, I would think.

Now, to get the rest of this newly prepared bed expansion planted...

Nice Hostas everyone. Finally got out to a nursery and picked up this little one. It's called Maui Buttercups. It really brightens up that dark spot with its gold, cupped and corrugated leaves. This one has been tagged so I won't be asking next year for an ID.

I just got 'Maui Buttercups' and it's relative, 'Rainforest Sunrise' planted a bit ago. Love 'em!

Cute Hosta setting you have made Karen. You're going to need a bigger bench. Ha!

'Maui Buttercups' and 'Rainforest Sunrise' are two really great hostas. They are medium sized in my yard. Karen, two leaves in the lower left-hand corner of your RS look like they are sporting.

I thought that too, Elizabeth, but then I wondered if it was just normal variation in the margins on a young plant.

What do you hosta experts think I should do with it--divide off the eye or let it be and watch to see what happens?

EDIT: Looking at it, it's not confined to one eye. The plant has two eyes and the leaves with wider margins are one on each eye. Guess I'll just let it be and enjoy the show. Smiling

I have 'Rainforest Sunrise' and it's very pretty, but I've decided to stay away from more hostas that are really cupped because my Linden tree is always dropping stuff that gets caught in the hostas. Gets very messy looking.

I have the same issue with the "helicopters" and assorted mess from the maple tree that drop into mine. But I love the cupped leaves enough that I go out there daily and pick them out. I would probably be less patient if I had as many hostas as you have, though, Ann. Sticking tongue out
