Some plants don't need a lot of roots, in fact I have a lot in my garden that just really have roots to hold them in place, and the roots hardly take up much nutrients at all.

Your Jade plant takes up and stores a lot of nutrients in its fleshy leaves. As long as it's got healthy looking leaves, it will grow the roots it needs. I think the Cactus Mix will stimulate it to grow the right amount of roots and they will stay healthier in the loose, airy medium.

Thanks for the root area photo..yeah, that looks about right, very small root system. But that area needs to be drier than that, good that you have repotted. Give it time, and it will adjust. Sometimes the hardest part is leaving them alone. They actually like a little chill in the air, they get those reddish hues in the leaves, as long as it is kept dry. Then depending on conditions, it may also try to make blooms.

What is the orientation of your window datastream? Jades can take full sun nicely. It would be nice to open up those blinds some more.
The second photo with the variegated leaves are scheffleras. You may want to give it just a little more sun, to improve the leaf color variegation to make it a bit more green than whitish yellow.

yeah thanks a lot. I'll do that....

I have a south facing window and also a west one so get the sun pretty much all day.....i'll get them blinds opened some more and make sure there never shut on a night tame so it gets full on sun during the day.

Are they good near drafts and radiators are is it wise to keep them away from sources like that.

Typically if the plant has been too acclimated indoors and suddenly exposed to drafts, they will pout and drop leaves, although jades and scheffleras that I have stays outdoors year round, hot or cold. Our cold conditions here are mild, we got no snow, cold temps in the 40F (4C) sometimes with occasional dips to low 20's (-6C). During summer we soar to the triple digit mark and very dry. But my plants are already hardened and more mature.

Since your plant is still young and recovering from something, try not to expose them to sudden temp fluctuations. Both plants will need more light now, they have full grown leaves, need to make their food. Smiling

hi people,

How are you all dong? good I hope.

Thought I'd pop back with a little update and a few more pics.

seems like the cuttings are coming on really well, the main plant still looking a bit well not the best...but better.

the scheffleras didn't last I'm afraid and it died, tried all sorts but just weltered away and couldn't keep it alive :(

Your jades are looking okay! Is the 2nd photo the original one? It looks okay, although to me it seems etiolating, meaning the stems are growing narrow and sparser leaves. Your plant is trying to seek for more light.

Sorry about your scheffleras, sometime it is just hit and miss.

Just sharing to you how my Crassula ovata is. I grow it outdoors, it gets part sun/part shade. If the light it needs is enough, there should be no leggy growth, more leaves on the nodes, and the main trunk can drink a lot and go big. So it is quite drought tolerant. My plant has grown into this specimen size already, and your plant can do that too in time. Wishing you the best for your plant. Try to give it some more light.

wow that's amazing! what a size as well hu?

the third one you mean? yeah that's the one that it all started out with.

it's actually sitting on a south facing window and I have the blinds open on that window all the time.
can't really give it any more light than that, I know it probably had a rough start
hopefully it'll muster up, maybe some feed?

thanks again Smiling

OOps sorry, yeah I meant the third photo. Smiling

I don't fertilize my jades, and they still grow quite well. Well, let us just wait and see how your plant goes. Sometimes the period of adjustment takes longer. As long as the main trunk and branches are firm to the touch and new leaves growing, it will go on.

They will begin to branch on their own as they mature. If it gets too tall (leggy), you can pinch off the growing tip and that will encourage branching. I just put a cane stake (the length according to the plant's height) next to a leggy, top-heavy plant, and wire the plant to the stake. That supports it well.

I have been enjoying watching the Jade plant get healthy. Thank You!

It's not necessary to give your exact location on a public forum, but to say that you are "in the UK" gives only general information as your you geographical location but not enough information for folks to know your climate zone. The more people know about your local climate the better answers they can offer. Even the sunlight coming through a window is different depending on where in the world that window is located. Thank You! Thumbs up
This link shows that there are several climate zones in the UK.

Thanks.
Looks like your climate zone is comparable to USDA zone 8 or 8a which is warmer in winter than I would have imagined it to be.
Your winters must be very mild.
