I have the same plant markers, but shorter. Did you order them some place in MI? I think I got about 1,000. My son ordered them for me. The ones I used in the regular garden got pretty beat up. I use marker, pencil, label maker and paint pen for marking. I haven't decided which I like best. Oh yeah, also china marker (grease pencil).

Hi Larry,..fantastic rose blooms and so many,..those plant markers are perfect i have not come across them over here,..i have spent ages cutting strips from white plastic paraffin containers,..i need to modernize.

These are only 12 inches, considered the 15 inch ones, but these will do fine. Yes, I got them from Everlast,in Paw Paw Mi.
I will try this pencil for a while, if it does not hold out I will try something else, I would one day love to have the pretty computer generated weather proof labels.

I have been using discarded blinds, but the darn Squirrels and birds and especially the armadillos find them way to easy to dig up. Just last night the armadillo raided my garden again, dug up half a dozen daylilies tossed my labels all over covered some with dirt, it just drives me crazy. These I hope will be able to stay in place, and at least the armadillo can't cover them up with dirt.
I spent some time this morning, using plastic deer fencing (actually black netting) to fence that entire area off, except for the uphill end. I have that blocked off with some aluminum and a trap, hope to steer him right in.
Now my concern is that he will find that area blocked off and move to my new daylily beds, then the gun comes out.

Seed, do you also do a diagram on paper so if things get mixed up?

Yes and no. I do have diagrams for the daylilies in beds that are all daylilies. But as of now, I do not have maps of all the others that are in mixed beds. One day, I will get around to that. I change those out so much, moving plants , adding plants. Those mixed beds are all backed by some type of fence and I have considered assigning a number to each fence section (5 -12 feet per section) and trying to map those out.

I don't have diagrams any more. I used to do that but since doing market, my own gardens have been neglected. My daughter is precise about tracking her plants. I did do a diagram for my echinacea row in the garden because the tags kept getting mixed up or lost. I even put it in my phone so when I'm in the garden I can double check it.

For my tomatoes, I always plant alphabetically and make a list in my phone for the same reason. After a couple of weeks I pretty much remember them, but you know, getting older, I have those senior moments.

Sorry to see the armadillo has caused havoc!,..i would explode were it me and find a permanent answer,..12 bore at least.

Great idea using the discarded blinds,..i knew someone else doing that alas i had no old blinds,..using a permanent marker was great but then the markers were only a once used item,..i was looking around for one of those plastic labeling things where you impress the words on to a plastic strip with an adhesive backing,..don't know if they would be weather proof but feel they might be.

I have used the plastic tape in the label maker and they are weather proof.

I plan on using the new metal markers for daylilies, roses, ferns and hostas, the rest will probably remain used blinds. Maps are helpful in some situations, but like today when the armadillo dug up the plants and the labels,(they were just purchased seedlings)but I had hoped to track their progress with a number assigned to each of them. Now how do you match a dug up plant with a tossed around label? I just did the best I could at guessing what went where. I don't have a smartphone myself, but I do try to keep diagrams and lists and all sorts of notes out in the garden shed.
No, not after two weeks or two months could I remember the order of anything! I only have three types of tomatoes planted and I find myself looking at the labels.

I remember seeing names written with marker on iris leaves. I wonder if you could do that with the daylilies? Those darn armadillos are a pain!!!

I'll bet you could, the problem being that I was out pulling the aging lower yellowing leaves off the daylilies just this morning. Any sign or leaf streak or rust and the leaves get pulled and tossed.

Yeah, that could present a problem then. Oh well, just a thought.
