I should say, its been that way since ive seen it. It was at my house when i bought my house. Its been next to the other two in the picture above also. Its the middle one in the top picture. I have over 250 hostas, and no other one looks even close to like that one. Ill read up on that virus, im new to hostas, but obsessed, i planted over 200 within the last year. Heres a few more pics, id load more, but this is slow to upload.

Yeah, it's a classic example of a hosta with Hosta Virus X. Here is a link to the Hosta Library and it has some pretty good information on HVX.

Remember to always sanitize your tools and hands between plants, be they hosta or other plants, so you don't transmit diseases all over your gardens.

I'd dig and get rid of that diseased hosta and put a companion plant in its place. Do not plant another hosta there, ok? Good luck and Welcome to the Addiction. :)

Thanks! Where is a good place to buy hosta seeds? I like growing them from seeds.

I have no idea -- I usually get liners from Pam (Woodthrush) or Ed (Bentley Gardens). I bet they would know.

Shastania - First time I've looked in this thread as ATP went live just about the time I got really busy. I agree - the plant above is severely virused. I hope by now, you've looked up links about Hosta Virus X and learned about it. If you've had that plant for awhile, you MAY have spread the virus to other plants, so I would keep watching them carefully and get into a habit of always sanitizing your tools (or hands) when you go from one plant to another.

As far as seeds, are you over on the Hallson list? sometimes people post seeds that are available there. Perhaps there could be such a thread here. I trust you do know that hosta seeds with one or two exceptions will not come true to the parent plant. The vast majority will be plain green ones and not overly exciting green ones at that. However, you can also get blue or yellow, usually solid colours. And you might get such traits as wavy leaves, red petioles, etc. And finally, you might get some really nice surprises. Just be prepared to get brutal if you collect and start your own seeds.
