Welcome! Peggy! When you post the pictures of the daylilies, if you know the height and bloom size, that might help. I don't have a guess for the red daylily, but it is very pretty Thumbs up

Welcome! Peggy.Just a guess, because with so many cultiver's, it really impossible most times to ID a Daylily by a photo. But by your description and the photo. My guess is Crimson Pirate. Crimson Pirate has very velvety petals. Have a look at these and see what you think? Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Crimson Pirate')

PeggyC - Welcome! This is one of the VERY nicest and most helpful group of daylily lovers on the internet! I don't really own many named and registered daylilies. Most all of mine are seedlings of crosses, so I am afraid I can't help you much with an ID of your lovely red daylily!
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters, compared to what lies within us.

I thought that profile looked very familiar, why didn't I think of Crimson Pirate? Does it multiply very rapidly? My Crimson Pirate multiplies rapidly and has very narrow leaves, but others have stated that their CP leaves are normal width.

I don't think I've ever seen a photo that captures Crimson Pirates velvety petals? But it is just breath taking to the naked eye. A beauty of an oldie but goody. And the Daylily that started my love affair with Daylilies. Smiling

Joy, you are so right about Crimson Pirate! It's stunning in person, but I can't get an accurate picture of it. I swear that it glows! I just can't capture the glow with my camera!

Welcome! Peggy. These are a wonderful bunch of knowledgeable and friendly people. I joined a few months ago and love the chat and exchange of information.

I have Crimson Pirate and would not be without it. It flowers its socks off and, as has been said, glows in the sun. AND the sun has been shining here for weeks, not a drop of rain which is most unsual. Temperatures in the high 60s! However we have had strong winds for the past 3 days which have crisped some of my roses. I have scapes on so many daylilies, never happened like this before, usually May before the earliest scapes appear. The good news is that there is no sign of gall midge so far Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!
