Salmon star is fantastic. It has a very original coloring for an oriental and the foliage is nice too!

It does have very unique coloring. It isn't a favorite of the cut flower industry because of its bloom orientation and stem presentation. The color is very unique among orientals. There really isn't another Lily that comes close to 'Salmon Star' in bloom size and color. It's truly lovely. Grew a number of them

Morning all--difficult for me to identify my favourite lilium, as I grow and breed so many seedlings, but certainly can identify some that I love the most.Species are some of my favourites.
Here is one such--Lilium lankongense

G'day Rick, yes it's a cracker. It's a selected seedling of mine and there still is a small bit still alive. It has not flowered for a couple of years, the snails ate the growing tip each year, despite the slug bait.I've dug down trying to find the bulb--no luck. The good news is I have two boxes of its seedlings, one as the pod parent, the other as the pollen parent and they should flower this coming season.I may also have more seed in the freezer
I lost a lot of my special plants in the terrible heat-wave of 2009. A lot of people died in bush fires that year also.

Lilium lankongense is such a beautiful lily and that's the nicest example I've seen a picture of. Outstanding photography too! Thanks for posting. I hope she comes back triumphant over all invidious mollusca. I only started L. lankongense from seed a couple of springs ago and I'm hoping next summer will be the one I finally get to see blooms. Lovey dubby

I am starting a new accession of lankongense seed this year as well. This one from Xianggelila in Yunnan, via Bjornar Olsen.

So far, I have Ll. henrici, souliei and Nomocharis farreri from him, returning from last years seeding. Smiling
Still waiting on Lilium lophophorum....

is Lankongense was crossed with other lily to produce Lankon??
the flowers are Lankon are like upside down pendants....beautiful
the lily breeder said even though Lankon was produced by 2 crossing of species they will not likely produce viable seeds for themselves.......
since he said all Lankons as far as he knows are clones not started from seed when you buy them

Lankon is L. Longiflorum (aka the Easter Lily) crossed with L. Lankongense. I'm not sure which way the cross was but it's a doozy!
