Celebrating Gardening: 2015
I ordered 4 of the big cloth beds for all the lilies that need to be put in here. they are 12 inches deep and 5 and half feet in diameter ......
then I thought previous to that with going with the raised beds...4 feet by 4 feet and one bed comes with a green house type covering if needed for seedlings and so on

the issue I had with the raised bed were they were in sets of 2 of them and 9 inches deep and did not think that was deep enough for the bulbs......was not sure though
the big cloth beds are breathable and so on and are 12 inches deep...........thought that was better
the raised beds fit together to give you 18 inches of depth as well.....

the raised beds needed to have floors put on them or part of the soil dug up under them to form a floor and the soil put in on top of them...

some of the lilies are still on the way here and this way they can just be planted right into the beds on arrival
some are in my fridge
the beds come on Thursday and the rest of the planting mix on Thursday too...

was not sure how to go to be honest. the plastic to make the green house effect sounded from the reviews to be way to warm ......
and it is not that high.....

I have a huge raised bed made out of pressured treated lumber on the other side of the house here and it is deep but deep.......and doing quite well with new soil added to it last year. a lot of lilies are planted in there and only one has peaked up so far but our temps are rather cool here yet.

so in the end decided on 12 inches deep verses 9 inches deep or 18 inches deep....

what type of beds do you have??

our soil here is very very rocky and raised beds are the best answer.....

Do you mean hardware cloth? If so, yes, I do use them.

all the cloth beds here are round beds........eventually the sides will rot out and at that time they will be all boxed into flower beds with pressure treated lumber or something like that but for now the cloth beds are working out good. Did not loose any lilies in them by the looks of it over the winter last year........
