My Vanda, 'Sunlight Orange' is almost the identical color as yours, Ursula. Mine is also beginning to bloom.

I just love that glowing golden orange color, both of those are beauties.

I'm using the new thread to show an update on my C. gaskelliana coerulea 2 which is suffusing a blue tinge into the petals today. This is rather unexpected, I though it would just have a blue-ish lip. (I know it looks pink but that is just my camera adding red to the mix)

What a beauty to start the new thread, Ursula! Great color and tons of blooms on your garayi.

Nice color on your Vanda, Ken. Can't wait to see this year's blooms.

Elaine, I looked up your Cattleya [C.] gaskelliana var. coerulea on OrchidWiz and your color looks about right. All of the pictures show a white orchid with purple on the lip and a yellow throat. There must be a hundred varieties of gaskelliana and each with a different color. Nice looking orchid.

This month brings out a first time bloomer for me, Galeopetalum [Gptm.] Giant 'Rheim Harlrquin' (Z. Artur Elle x Glta. grandiflora). Its pre-boffin name is Zygopetalum. Nice large flowers for a Zygo.

And another nice Encyclia, E. Nursery Rhyme (E. Atroniceum x E. cordigera).

Good ones, Jim. I have a couple of Enc. varieties but no Gptm. Your Gptm. looks a little like my Miltassia Royal Robe 'Jerry's Pick' HCC/AOS. Several of my Gramm. scriptum var. 'Kiilani' are starting to bloom. They have a neat color pattern.

Thanks, Jim - you helped me pick out that gaskelliana plant at Tropiflora last fall, remember? Amongst all those bare-root divisions, you said it looked like a good one, and it sure did take off! I guess if there are hundreds of varieties, maybe it's a vigorous type?

Here's a spray of my nice big Onc. noid, which graced the patio table during my kids' visit. Every time my daughter went out there she said "aren't you glad I bought you a couple of orchids, Mum?" To which I'd reply with a wave of the hand at the 100-odd plants in the pool cage "Yes, you're entirely responsible for this addiction".

Ken, Zygopetalems have their own alliance so are not related to the Oncidiums, like your Miltassia. To read more, see http://www.oscov.asn.au/articles6/zygos.html . Nice color on your Gramm.

Elaine, my memory is foggy on the Tropiflora event as I was in a feeding frenzy, but I'm glad I led you to the gaskelliana. It is an old and trusted Catt with many varieties and crosses.

I do love those with the beautiful markings on the petals, nice one Gigi!

Here's one of my Phals blooming away, with nice big flowers. The mites got at one of them, darnit. But the flower thrips problem that got most of my other ones seems to be gone, thanks to Jim's advice to use the Spinosad.

Hmm, I sure wish I could find the tag for this plant, but it was a Trader Joe's acquisition so . . I think we might debate whether it's an Onc. or an Encyclia. Opinions? I think the leaves look similar to some other Encyclias I have but the flowers look more like Oncidium. ( I don't care that much but it's an excuse to post another picture of it because it's blooming so nicely)
