This rose has been in the family for at least 40 years and was called Evangeline. It's a "vining" shrub, if that's the correct description, has thorns and this new bloom is a bit under 2.5" wide. Could this be Rose (Rosa 'Evangeline') ?

No, Evangeline has single blooms (5-7 petals) in large clusters. Yours has at least double the number of petals. We don't have any photos of Evangeline in our database, but here's a page of photos on HMF.com:

There's another Evangeline that's a tea, but it has white blooms and it probably wouldn't climb.
