Granny Laurie's Rose

By Sharon
May 27, 2011

The rose is much older than I am, and yet it grows and blooms as if it's just so happy to be here. The rains come, the winds rage, and still Granny Laurie's rose just keeps right on blooming. I wish I could do that.

Sharon;
Your memories, almost without fail, stir memories of my own. Got me a little misty thinking about the old rose bush that grew just below my bedroom window. It came from a cutting off my grandmother's rose. Dad said he remembered her planting the seed in a cup in the house and transplanting it into the yard before he was school aged. (He was born in 1920)

It's on my list of things to get a cutting from when I return to Mississippi next time.

*Blush* Finally found you again... with another wonderful memory shared! How I'd love to find a piece of a particular rose grown by my Great Aunt Laura. Niether mom nor grandma cared for roses but Laura (Lar), spent her growing time outside with her roses. Lord knows she tried to teach me, but I didn't have her green thumb & too many boys around to sit and learn properly. These days I feel as if I'm more like Ain' Lar than ever. As always thanks for the memories and the gentle reminder, to get outside & be a part of it, all over again. debbie

There you are! I am so glad you found me. It's been such a long time.
And you had a Laura in your life, too.

I love your last statement...'to get outside & be a part of it all, all over again.'
That's the best part about growing older, we are allowed to be outside whenever we want, and most of us continue to do what we learned from our relatives.

Now if only I could get this rose off my roof....I guess it's going to be one cane at a time.

Thank you.
Now that you're here, I hope you'll stay.

Great story of how some of our plants will outlive us and bring joy to our children and grandchildren and future generations. Thank you so much Sharon. Thumbs up
