Hello Everyone!

I've been wanting to add this photo to the plant database, but I'm not quite sure what kind of bromeliad it is! I believe it's a kind of neoregelia, but the genus is so diverse!

I took the picture at the Marie Selby Botanical gardens in Sarasota, FL.

Let me know if it looks familiar to you :)

Thanks for the tips you guys!

I was looking through the MS list earlier, but there are hundreds of names! I might have some good luck with the other list you posted though because there are pictures with each name.

Moral of the story; I should take pictures of the identification tags of any botanical garden plants I photograph so I have their names :P

You can use the MSBG link to maybe get an e-mail address and send the picture and ID request directly to them. I do apologize, I thought I included the B Noregelia species/cultivar link also.

I have taken photos of plant labels only to find them too out of focus to read when I got home.
May be better to jot the info in a little notebook with a reference to the # of the photo.

It sure is a beauty! My first thought was Neoregelia which have teeth along the leaf margins; I don't think Vriesea have the teeth but I can't remember for sure. So many Brom's look alike to me and I have difficulty telling a Vriesea from a Neo. from a Guzmania. Rolling on the floor laughing

Certainly a type of Neoregelia carolinae 'Tricolor', Striped Blushing Neoregelia.

Haven't seen one with the spotted blushing.

Vriesea have sword-like spikes.

Shrug! I'm still guessing and searching...

On page 47 of this Selby pdf:
http://selby.org/wp-content/up...

26- 22 Neoregelia carolinae (Beer) L B Smith ii forma tricolor (M B Foster) m B Foster ex L

The search result here:
http://fcbs.org/cgi-bin/dbman/...
Lists the plant as 26-22.002 but there is no photo available.

Ahh, so close! :p Thanks for searching with me. I just thinkt it's so interesting and want to know what its name is!

Usually I keep searching for something until I find it (it's almost like a fun puzzle or a hunt!) but there's just so many varieties and not enough pictures out there. I finally emailed the peeps over at Marie Selby, and they responded and said that they will ID it for me. Mystery almost solved!

I think it might be a Neoregelia 'Andromeda' or Neoregelia 'Sarasota Sunday'.

Still not 100% sure and am waiting to hear back from Marie Selby. Might need to poke them again :p
