I had some that has heart shaped leaves but when the big power outage back in the winter dropped in on my greenhouse whilst it was in the teens one night, they all froze. Sad Also had a veragated one and it bit the dust also and had a couple I was told was rare when I bought them, same fate! I now have none! But I think they are beautiful in bloom. Big Grin

Hetty: That is lovely ... is it H. pubicalyx?

My Hoya pubicalyx's receive more sun here at my new house and with the additional sunlight the foliage is attaining pretty red shades. This one currently has buds:

And, another one with no sign of buds yet this year:

Yes, Lin, I think that is the one. I got it as a no-name. I'll post pictures of the blooms when they are open. I have visions of that entire arbor covered in Hoyas!

Hetty, you are so fortunate to live in a part of the state where you can grow Hoya's outside year round! I have to bring mine in for a few weeks when we have cold winters. I look forward to seeing photo's when your blooms open ... I will try to remember to take pictures of mine when they open too. Mine bloomed off and on last year.

These are photo's of the above two plants from last summer.

This one was labeled H. pubicalyx 'Royal Hawaiian Purple' but I was told it may be 'Red Buttons'. As you can see by the photo's in my earlier post, the foliage changes when grown in higher light:

Also from my earlier post, this is H. pubicalyx 'Pink Silver':

Here is the same Hoya, now with the blooms fully opened. I think Lin's identification is correct!

Hetty: It's beautiful, do you detect any fragrance in the early evening? Can you post a photo of the leaves? The bloom does look like Hoya pubicalyx but blooms can be deceiving ... many hoya blooms look alike. The buds on mine are getting fatter and should open any day now.

My pubicalyx is flowering too high up in the trees now to get a good photo. Occasionally there'll be one lower down but not often. My lacunosa keeps putting them out regularly and the densifolia fairly regularly. But this one hasn't done as well this year as it did last, H. australis ssp rupicola. It's just starting to open up. I may have some seed pods coming along from a couple of earlier peduncles.

Very nice Zig ... does that one have the awesome fragrance of other H. australis'? I have H. australis subsp. tenuipes that has grown like gangbusters and blooms sometimes twice a year. Then I have another that I received in trade in 2008 that was labeled as Hoya keysii. It has soft, fuzzy leaves instead of the smooth leaf surface like subsp. tenuipes. Someone identified it on another forum as H. australis subsp. australis. It's a slow grower compared to tenuipes and produced one measly bloom in December 2010 ... but nothing since.

I have only one Hoya, used to have a varigated one, but that one died after about 5 years. Here's a couple of pics of the one I have. It's not in bloom right now, and I don't have a clue to it's name. The leaves have small white specs on them.

Lin, this one has quite a strong sweet, talc fragrance.

Opened up even more this morning.
