I missed Jelinda's post earlier. I'm wondering if crickets are the culprits eating the leaves of some of my plants on the deck? I hear crickets every night but I didn't know they ate plants! I love their chirping but I sure don't want them around if they are going to eat my plants! I just googled and found this information saying they eat both plants and meat:

... maybe I will have to begin feeding them to keep them from dining on my plants! Green Grin!

Crickets, like birds, serve nature as well as can be destructive. Doncha think it's better to live with them?

Just saying...they don't eat the WHOLE plant.... Rolling my eyes.

I figured we cut down about 18 trees around the house and probably made a lot of them have to relocate, got rid of some foods sources. They are adapting to what we changed!!So the least i could do was move my plants to the front since the grass hoppers are in the back *Blush* .I put them under some shade tree's,had the hubby pull a wire between 2 trees and now my Hoya's & a few other's are hanging nicely in the shade out of the 100 degree sun, enjoying only the heat & humidity that comes with it.

I had to pull a wire between 2 tree's because i don't have 1 tree with a low limb. There was so many tree's here that they all were growing in a canopy type way, everything at the top with no limbs on all these very tall, big tree's.Maybe now that the sun gets to the ground we will get lower tree limbs and grass. Hurray!
A green thumb comes only as a result of the mistakes you make while learning to see things from the plants point of view!!

I walked around the back of an oak in my backyard and found a Hoya in a basket on the ground had decided to climb the tree. Will these root if I take cuttings off the tree?Thumb of 2012-08-13/Bubbles/99d096

I agree with Hetty, cuttings should root easily where each node touches the soil.

I tip my hat to you. I've rooted hoya cuttings a few times. When I have a long stem I place it on top of the soil and wind it around in a circle like fashion and weigh it down with rocks ... it always produces roots where each node touches the soil.

When you pull a piece from the tree truck, it should already have the beginnings of roots...and they will continue to support the plant...

Not really a big one but a little shaker. Living on an active volcano they happen quite often - Rolling my eyes. It's when they get up toe 5+ that I don't like them We had a 6.7 and the trees were whipping around crazily. That was wierd!!!

We're planning a trip to Oahu over the holidays. We are also spending a couple of days at Kilauea Military Camp. I just happened to find the earthquake news when I was checking on reservations! (I don't want no stinkin' eruption while we're there, either). Whistling

Hi Ladies,

I love all your Hoya pictures! I am new to this site and am wondering if you trade plant cuttings? I have four very small Hoya plants.
I am looking to acquire more. I am willing to share my cuttings in trade.

I have one very large round leafed Hoya. I didn't see pics of it here. I don't know the name of it.
I bought it at a nursery years ago. It is my largest plant and is in a 10 inch planter. It has bloomed for
me one time and the flowers are similar to Carnosa's bloom.

Please let me know if you trade or are interested?

Thanks so much! You all have such beautiful looking healthy plants.

Sandy Lee

Sandy...I would be happy to send you cuttings for postage... I would wait until the spring, tho' - unless you have grow lights, the natural daylight now is telling the plants to 'chill'...they will be easier to root when the days start getting longer. Let me know....I have a few that would grow well for you out there....

Carol

Question - perhaps someone can help.

I noticed on one of my hoyas that my plant is doing the same thing as Jojoes' 3rd photo down on the July 4th posting. The colored margins seem to be leaving the newer leaves and the newer leaves are coming in all green with the little flecks of lighter color. Why is this? I had hoped my plant would retain the coloration of light and dark. Is there a way to retain the light and dark margins on the leaves?

Tia
