Name: Lauri N Central Wash. - the dry side (Zone 5b)
Wow! Is that really a Red Maple? It looks more like a Japanese Maple of some sort to me, but I certainly don't know. In fact I am trying to identify my unknown pass-along maple that I think is probably a red maple. I don't seem to be very good at this plant ID thing. This photo seems to have quite different leaves from the others I have been viewing.
Lauri, yes it's definitely Acer rubrum, a tree that was growing in the front yard at our old house for many years. It might be the lighting and time of year (October) that make it appear more like the Japanese Maple. I wish I had pictures of the entire tree but I lost many photos when my laptop crashed (twice!) a few years ago. This photo is from the same tree only this one was taken in July:
@bamira Thank You, you are correct that my photos aren't Acer rubrum but rather Florida Maple (Acer barbatum) which has palmate leaves. I will propose to have my photos moved to the correct database location. Thanks again!

~ Playing in the dirt is my therapy ... and I'm in therapy a lot!
It's not Acer barbatum, is trilobate
your picture is palmatum, palmatum doesn't mean palm (Areca)
palmatum as the palmar, (hand) slender long lobes as 5 fingers
