I can remember my Grandmother and Mom always having a few of the historic types. Purples and yellows mostly. Then several years ago my sister and I took a trip down to Iris City Gardens. I was so blown away seeing rows and beds of beautiful iris. I began to add a few each year. Not a big collector, but an admirer just the same. Here are a couple pics of Iris City Gardens.

I am in the top picture and the owner is the lady in the second picture. I will post a couple more while I have the dvd out.

If you look closely you can see the Amish lady and children that were also touring the gardens.

I was into roses before the Iris and always dreamed of having a English Cottage Garden. Not knowing any better the Iris I bought were from the big box stores. About 6 years ago my friend Anita and I stopped at an Iris field where a man sold un-named Iris for 2.00 each. I think we each bought about 60 Iris each. The next three years each spring we would go back and buy about the same amount. I remember the man telling us about these ladies that would come to buy Iris and they would leave mad because he didn't have named Iris. He called them Iris snobs. Anita and I didn't care about the Iris names we both just wanted beautiful gardens and now you know why I have so many un-named Iris. About 4 years ago I noticed a sign that said "Iris sale" that was not to far from where I live. This lady sold her named Iris for 3.00 each and all of them where named! Anyways I was hooked when I saw most of them in bloom and thought how gorgeous they looked. Then I found ATP... then about two weeks ago I got a new computer monitor. It's amazing the color difference in the old monitor vs the new one monitor and now I'm even more afraid.....

LOL Barbara -- I suspect that most of us have yielded to the temptation of buying road-side Irises without names. I know that I have. I might even be tempted now, if I saw something so beautiful that I couldn't leave without it!

Teresa -- where is Iris City Garden?

This past week a friend and I went to Tennessee and visited Wild Iris Rows in Springfield. Here are a couple of photos.

The main bed behind the house, overlooking farm fields and a pond.

Standing in the middle of the main bed (above).

These Irises in front of the front porch of the farmhouse, were planted throughout the Iris beds.

I didn't do a good job of photographing the facility itself. I was too busy taking glamour shots of all the beautiful Irises there.

Yes Leslie -- and met Greg. You're right -- he's a very nice and accommodating person. We enjoyed our visit very much.

@muddymitts, if you like apple cider you would like this stuff! It tastes nothing like beer! I like wine too, I do White Zinfandel out of a box...classic red neck here!! Or Crown and water with a twist of lemon or White Russians or.....

Wait!! I just got the best idea ever...I say we get a little tipsy, get out the guns and shoot the irises we don't like! I have a couple of NOIDs that have really ticked me off this year that I would go for first!
