This is an antique mirror that we finished with polyurethane and hang over our brick box garden.

Very nice, Candee. Do you have an overview photo of how it looks with the brick box garden? I started a new bed in my front yard and I am now on the lookout for interesting things to put in it, but not so interesting that someone will take it.....a fine line indeed.

What a nice accent for your brick planter box. So that is where you have your astilbe. The one that I am trying again is just languishing at 2 inches tall. Are those gladiolus? Are those thrip damage on the leaves? I have those on my leaves and the flowers get all deformed.

Thanks Dianne, yest glads - must tell you that my astillbe took a long time to mature so be patient. Not sure what you are referring to on the leaves? In the back where it is brown is some ivy that I sprayed with weed killer?

Hi Candee - took me awhile to get back to this thread to answer you Hilarious!

I was referring to some of your gladiolus leaves - the ones that have some white streaks on them. They reminded my of my glads that got attacked by thrips, and they leave those marrkings, along with causing the glad flowers to be all deformed. My acidanthera also was attacked, and I had to pull all those out years ago. Have them on the schizyoluthus (sp??) too, and probably will have to get rid of those. I hate thrips more than I hate snails. Grumbling

Yikes I never heard of thrips? What are they? My glads have always bloomed fine, not aware of any disease they have had. I only had about 3 this year, but likely because of our harsh 2009 winter.

I like it but I would be afraid that around here the way things fly through the air, something would fly and break it.

Thanks everyone, it does look good there and is semi protected from the weather. We used to take it in during the winter but last year didn't even do that. Antique lovers would not be pleased to hear that. This is from this year.

Thank you. I am not as thrilled with the plant choice this year, but the nasturiums sure came in thick.

If you lived in Phoenix, you'd be more than proud. Our heat keeps many plants from growing huge.

You know Phoenix or Scottsdale are the places I would have loved to retire to if $ was not an issue. I would love to have a landscape of huge cactus and gravel instead of the grass.

It's beautiful but so hot from June through September. I'd like to have a summer home in Maine or Oregon!

I have a large mirror DH took out of the trash, no frame around it, and just don't know what I want to do with it. Also he just found a nice round mirror, again no frame. No imagination here so need some suggestions. Confused

Can you or your DH make a frame for it? Do you have some photos of your garden area so we can make some good suggestions?
